Mod support never seems to slow down for Fallout games, no matter how old they get. It’s a testament to the community's dedication that the biggest modding projects come years after the game’s launch, as we saw recently with Fallout: New Vegas. But now, half a decade since release, it’s Fallout 4’s turn to get its own fan-made DLC.

In fact, calling Fallout London DLC for the fourth game may not be entirely accurate. While the project is being made in the same engine and uses the game’s assets, it’s otherwise completely unique - new setting, new story, new factions, and even a new player character. Yes, as the name would suggest, Fallout London is bringing the series to the United Kingdom for the first time.

It doesn’t get much more British than this. The trailer alludes to some of the London-inspired factions we’ll encounter - one of which, The Gentry, appears to be tied to the royal family, that are somehow still knocking about. Other factions include militia group, The Tommies; populist anti-establishment movement, 5th Column; and criminal organization, the Isle of Dogs Syndicate.

Set in 2237, this puts it in between the first two Fallouts on the timeline - so well before the events of Fallout 3 and beyond. The first Fallout depicted a very different kind of society than what we saw later on, in which communication between settlements was incredibly limited. Indeed, every town was very insular, with no overarching government body attempting to bring the Wasteland together. While Fallout London is set in a completely different country, that at least gives you a feel for what sort of world we could explore.

The Fallout London website does give us an idea of what not to expect, however. As the FEV virus was created in the US, the modders are running on the assumption that it would not have reached the UK, especially so early on in the series. This means no Super Mutants, Centaurs or Deathclaws. Also, as Vault-Tec is an American company, the UK will have a different equivalent.

The team is yet to announce a release date, but updates will be posted to its social media. They’re also recruiting staff for the project, and an application form can be found on the website.
