Post-apocalyptic Boston can be a little bleak, so one modder has opted to bring playable guitars into Fallout 4. Now you can gather around the campfire with Preston and your buds to play a few songs.

As per the description, Select Guitars "adds a craftable guitar that you can put down anywhere and actually play, chord for chord as you like. You can also craft them at your settlements."

The trailer shows off the guitar model in detail and it even features a Vault-Tec logo on the top. Modder Neeher then shows off the various colours before leaping into a tutorial. You sit down, pick up the guitar, and a wheel appears. It has four numbers. Those are the directions, the strings. But if you hit numbers at the same time, you'll get new chords.

"I'm super excited this guitar mod became more than just a demo idea," Neeher said. "I love to play guitar and I've been playing for over 12 years. It's a lot of fun and now you can do it in-game. It's pretty easy, too."

The video then cuts to Neeher placing a guitar and sitting down to strum out a song in the middle of the wasteland. It's incredibly atmospheric, if a little sombre, and if you fancy doing it yourself, all you have to do is download the mod and get stuck in. Maybe you can find a few tracks online to try out.

You don't need any other DLC or mods to get going, just an installer and the file. Once you have it up and running, there are a few things to note. You can't play the guitar while wearing power armour—Neeher says "don't even try." You also can't play it in first-person because "you don't have legs in first-person." And NPCs can't play the guitars because they don't know how to select the chords. They'd just be sitting there blankly.
