Fallout 4 is arguably one of the best games of all time. It’s a game that somehow combined the shooting of Call of Duty, the building of The Sims, and an entirely open world which rivals that of Skyrim. If you’re reading this article, then chances are you’ve probably already spent many hours exploring the Commonwealth. For those of you who don’t spend your every waking hour wandering or at least thinking about exploring the Wasteland (shame on you), allow me to clue you in. Fallout 4 is the most recent in a series of games which places the player in a post-apocalyptic nuclear world where they essentially have free reign to do whatever they please. The world is full of warring factions, zombie-like ghouls, mutated livestock, highway robbers, and, of course, the boatloads of loot. Coupled with the excellent gameplay, Fallout 4 offers an entirely customizable character, a compelling story, fully realized NPC’s, and a near unrivaled sense of adventure.

With over 400 hours of gameplay and the ability to replay the game a near infinite amount of times, it seems impossible that one could get bored playing Fallout 4. Alas, the most of astute us may manage the feat, but have no fear because we are here to help. We’ve already done 15 Things You Had NO Idea You Could Do In Fallout 4 and Hidden Locations You Never Found In Fallout 4 (go check those out if you haven’t yet), here are 20 Crazy Things To Try When You Get Bored In Fallout 4.

20 A Bobble Head Display

via monkeymods.com

Bobbleheads in Fallout 4 serve a bigger purpose than just that of a collectable item like they do in the real world. Each bobblehead increases its corresponding S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat permanently by one point. But, then what? Well, instead of just letting that little wobbly headed guy waste away with the rest of your gear, you can build a bobblehead display to show off your hard earned collection and it’s relatively simple too! All you need is three fiberglass, three screws, and four pieces of steel. Make your way to your workshop and under miscellaneous furniture you’ll find what you’re looking for. Have you been looking for the one piece of furniture to fill that empty space in the corner? Well look no further than your very on Bobblehead Display!

19 Mods, Mods, And More Mods

via VG247.com

This one is admittedly easier for those members of the PC community as opposed to the console community, but it’s a way to spice up the game nonetheless! We’ve all seen clips online of people running around as Star Wars characters, swinging their lightsabers to and fro, well that could be you! All it takes is a simple internet search then you’ll be well on your way and perhaps one day you’ll make your very own mods. Adding mods to your armor or weapons not only spices up the visuals of the game a bit, but also makes it possible to obtain upgrades that otherwise would not be accessible. Check out Nexus Mods for the latest and easiest access to the modding community.

18 Chem Cocktail You Say?

via youtube.com

So you’re bored? You’ve played Fallout 4 through more times than you can count on both your fingers and toes, you’ve explored the many different corners of the Waste and you’ve even explored the many different romance options among the NPCs (No, not Dogmeat). Well, while you may be an experienced explorer of the Waste, have you ever made a Chem Cocktail before? That’s right, not just used a chem for a quick stat boost, extra experience points, or to finish a mission, but completely mixed certain chems in order to make a unique blend. Chem cocktails can be mixed at any chemistry station and depending on the ingredients, they can have very different effects. Be warned! Too many chems can lead to an addiction!

17 A Free SPECIAL Point

via youtube.com

This one is less of something to do in order to spice up the game, but more of a quick side mission for those who haven’t yet completed. Everyone remembers the quintessential family feel of the prologue of the game. A loving family, a beautiful home, on a gorgeous day in a quaint little neighborhood. Well, if you find yourself with some dead time and are looking for something to do, why not revisit that neighborhood which is decidedly not so quaint anymore. If you return home and search through Shaun’s former room thoroughly you’ll happen across a book titled “You’re SPECIAL.” After collecting the book you’ll find yourself with one extra SPECIAL point to add to your stats. Now, how’s that for nostalgia!

16 Up For A Challenge?

via mspoweruser.com

As stated earlier, Fallout 4 is a game with the potential for an almost infinite amount of replays. Different NPC’s companions to choose from, different factions to align with, different storylines to choose, and different weapons to use. Still, as much as you shake it up, if you’re just a great Fallout player then there’s almost no way of getting around that. You’ll still find yourself breezing through missions and firefights like nobody’s business, unless you try something new. Instead of blazing through the game at your usual speed, creating a well-rounded and almost unbeatable character, why not play with a purposely unbalanced character? Don’t put any points into intelligence or stray away from strength entirely. If you can still manage to conquer the Waste on sheer Luck, then you truly are a Fallout champion.

15 Home Sweet Home

via imgur.com

You’ve beat the game. Explored all there is to explored. Emptied every vault accessible and even managed to create not one, but two bustling settlements which are beginning to verge on becoming a metropolis. Now all that’s left for you and your romantic partner, whether they be the hard hitting Piper or the mysterious smooth talking Nick Valentine, is to settle down and retire. Enjoy the sights that is the world being reborn (In large part thanks to yourself). What better place to settle in than in Diamond City? For 2,000 caps (Fallout currency) you can buy the home call Home Plate from Geneva in the mayor’s office. It’s a pretty large home with a warehouse attached, a prime piece of Diamond City real estate, though you could probably build something more impressive.

14 Supply And Demand

via gamecrate.com

If you haven’t already, then you need to get on making and connecting supply lines between your settlements. Settlements are a key component of Fallout 4 and having successful settlements not only makes the game more fun, but also easier. To make a supply line is fairly simple. You need three things to begin with: at least two or more settlements (obviously), at least one free settler, and the first rank of the Local Leader perk. Just go to the workshop, highlight the available settler, then choose which settlement you want them to create a supply line too. Now you’ll have access to the material in both settlements, as well, any excess water will be transferred over to the settlement which needs it most.

13 Hacker-man

via pcgamer.com

While it may seem like a minor gripe, the ten second interval between hacking attempts is a major buzzkill. Especially when the only reason you got it wrong was because of a minor mistake or when you’re playing on a time limit! This simple wraparound will allow you multiple attempts at guessing the password. If you look through the hacking mini-game, you’ll see a screen full of digits that looks exactly like one would imagine computer coding to appear. Look more closely, however, and you’ll see that it’s more than just a random assortment of digits but there are actually small words scattered throughout the code. Highlight those words, give them a click, and you’ll gain yourself an extra attempt (interval free) for each word you find. If that’s too much for you, then Nick Valentine’s companion perk gives you an extra attempt.

12 The Rogue Warrior

via youtube.com

We already talked about focused builds, making your character as seemingly unbalanced as possible to make the game harder, but now let’s talk about being a rogue melee warrior. I briefly touched on how Fallout 4 tries its best to channel its inner Skyrim, well playing strictly melee takes this to the next level! For starters, you’re going to want to beef up your strength and stealth stats, next you’re going to want to find one of the premier melee weapons in the game such as Zao’s Sword or Grognak’s Axe, if you’re going to want to have a chance out there in the Waste. Playing a melee only build is definitely tough, but very rewarding if you manage to make it far in the game. Pro tip: avoid hordes of ghouls!

11 The Pick Pocket

via youtube.com

Up for a real challenge? Well we all know how pesky and annoying it can be to fight an enemy in power armor, especially when you left yours back home charging. But, any experienced Fallout 4 player knows how to quickly and effectively rid themselves of an enemy in armor. However, why quickly rid yourself of your super powered enemy when you can make a game out of it? That’s right! Try your hand at sneaking up on your unsuspecting enemy and pick pocket their fusion core right out of their power armor, good luck using their power armor then! This makes for a fun little mini-game to play and allows you to hone your sneaking skills. In fact, if you’re playing a melee only build then this might be your best option.

10 Customize Your Pip-Boy

via nexusmods.com

This is more for aesthetic pleasure than anything. I repeat, changing your Pip-Boy display will not make the game any easier or harder, unless of course you choose the wrong color. Many of us never tamper with the settings being content with the game as it is, but if you just head over to the settings, you can your RGB settings to choose whichever color makes you the happiest on the inside. Though, choosing red, yellow, or orange may serve to make the game just a tiny bit more difficult as then you won’t be able to tell the difference between normal conversation and persuasion attempts. Now, for the extremely bored player this may be desirable. Why not romp through the game without knowledge of whether or not you’re attempting to romance a character?

9 The Never Ending Grind

via nexusmods.com

You heard it here first prospective surveyors of the Wasteland! In Fallout 4, there is no level cap! Which, when considered, makes perfect sense among the myriad of choices there are when it comes to the skills tree. You can finish the main plot and keep on leveling, and leveling, and leveling until your fingers fall off. Now, this may grow a bit tedious once you get to a high enough level and any enemy you come across become akin to mincemeat. Still, this freedom alleviates any sense of pressure from the game really. You don’t have to choose one skill and beeline down that tree because at level 55 you can’t go any higher. No, you have the freedom to do it all if you really wanted.

8 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

via gosunoob.com

Remember all those fusion cores we pick pocketed off unsuspecting enemies a few entries earlier? Well, they’re back! Most of us discard any used and empty fusion cores that we have, to our own detriment. Once a fusion core is completely empty, it’s useless, but if you remove it right before it empties, even with just a small drop of juice left, you can sell it for a tidy sum. Talk about recycling! By making a couple extra caps of your used or stolen fusion cores, you can easily make the game a bit easier for yourself. Just like in the real world, the game is much easier with lots of money as opposed to none!

7 Jack & Rose

via giga.de

When Jack sacrificed himself to let Rose live in the ending of Titanic, the world cried. We were devastated that the love they’d just found for each other was ending so soon. We were envious at Jack’s selflessness in allowing this woman to live knowing surely that he’d die. Then, after the tears dried and our hearts hardened once again, we thought: Wait, there definitely was enough room for the both of them on that door. Regardless of your feelings on Jack’s sacrifice, you can revisit the scene in Fallout 4, albeit a bit more morbid than the original. If you make your way over to Far Harbor, you will find Jack and Rose’s skeleton and that fateful red door out in the middle of the water. The most heartbreaking park of all? Jack never let go.

6 A Lifetime’s Supply of Stimpaks

via youtube.com

If you have the Nuka World DLC, get ready for a good old Dark Souls reference. In the North-East corner of the area, there is a destroyed town called Bradberton. Once you find it, follow the road South out of town until you find an unsuspecting looking house. Inside you’ll find a pile of ashes with a sword sticking out of it, a nod to the bonfires in the classic Dark Souls series. Kindle this bonfire and Stimpaks will begin to appear. After you’ve picked your fair share of Stimpaks, pick up the sword and even more will appear! Like I said, a lifetime’s supply of Stimpaks, or two firefights worth at the very least! Unfortunately, the sword does not work as a weapon for you melee builds out there.

5 The Die Hard Reference

via youtube.com

Fallout 4 is full of pop culture references. We’ve already covered Titanic and Dark Souls, but how about Die Hard. A classic which might just be the most memorable role of Bruce Willis’s prolific career, it’s only right that Fallout 4 manages to throw a nod or two in its direction. There is a message in Bottle Message #5 – Difficult to Kill, which directly quotes John McClane who is played by Willis. “Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs.” There is also a teddy bear, a pack of duct tape, and a gold plated flip lighter to boot. The makers of Fallout 4 certainly had some free time on their hands in order to make as many pop culture references as they managed.

4 The Indiana Jones Reference

Now this one is more silly than anything else. An avid Indiana Jones fan will know that in Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, our fateful hero Indiana survives a nuclear blast by hiding out in a lead lined refrigerator (please do not try this at home). Well, in the beginning of the quest Kid in a Fridge, we get a quick but not subtle reference to the grave-robbing, wise-cracking, anti-hero that is definitely Harrison Ford’s second most iconic role (see: Han Solo). Billy Peabody himself attempted to survive a nuclear blast by hiding out in a refrigerator though you’ll have to play the mission to see how that turned out for him.

3 Fight the “Swan”

via youtube.com

The Swan is a secret, not so secret, boss fight in Fallout 4 and be wary, it’s only for those up for a serious challenge! For those doing a melee only build, bonus points as Swan offers an amazing melee weapon as the reward for finishing him off, the Furious Power Fist. Swan’s pond is right next to the Boston Commons and while it looks interesting enough, inside is a large and dangerous looking monster. You’ll definitely want you power armor, a hefty supply of Chems, an even heftier supply of Stimpaks, and the proper companions with you. Fight Swan is no joke and once he’s defeated then perhaps you’re ready to take the next step in your Fallout Career.

2 Play Donkey Kong

via youtube.com

All right, it’s not called Donkey Kong in Fallout 4, instead it’s called Red Menace, but one look at the game and we all know what it’s based off of. A game once unlocked that can be played on your Pip-Boy, Red Menace served as anti-Chinese propaganda against the Chinese Communist Forces. The game can be found in Vault 111 at the recreational terminal and once uploaded can be accessed by your Pip-Boy at any time. Everyone loves a good mini-game within a game (we’re talking to you The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and Gwent), so try you best and get the highest possible score rescuing Pauline, I mean Vault Girl!

1 Would You Like To Play A Game?

via gaming.stackexchange.com

Better known as the Parking Lot Mystery Maze, but like Red Menace, we all know what popular culture this little gem is based on. The Parking Lot Mystery Maze is located almost directly in the center of the commonwealth, connected to Fallon’s Department Store and Milton General Hospital. You’ll want to have your sneak stat as high as possible in order to attempt the maze and be wary, along with a myriad of traps the places is littered with Feral Ghouls. There is plenty of loot available for those who successfully brave the maze including but not limited to, the Hot Rodder Magazine, a mini nuke, Combat Armor Helmet, and four fusion cores. Enter if you dare wayward wasteland travelers.
