Fallout 76 players are begging for a ban wave, and are even cancelling their Fallout 1st subscriptions in protest as hackers run rampant and crash servers. The issue seems to have kicked off two weeks ago, as cheaters found a way to dupe items with a method that causes major lag for other players.

Across the Fallout 76 subreddit, the current state of the game is described as “unplayable”, with many feeling ignored by Bethesda. Fans are also encouraging each other to stop spending money on the game, including cancelling their Fallout 1st subscriptions - a premium membership introduced post-launch, which sets players back $99.99 a year.

The lag and crashes are caused by cheaters going into public servers, and duping items such as power armour. This affects every player in the server, either slowing down the game, or kicking them out completely. The issue appears to be present across all platforms, with both console and PC players taking to the subreddit to try and get Bethesda’s attention.

“Bethesda just doesn't care. The last Ask Me Anything was a joke they ignored all the important questions”, replied BiggusDikcuss, echoing a lot of the fan frustration regarding Bethesda’s management. “I’m bummed dude, I took this weekend off work and I sat down to play and I’m about to turn it off. Constant server not responding messages”, commented blitherblather425.

In one of the posts from a player cancelling their membership, Serpentine219 left a farewell message regarding the cheaters: “Hopefully something changes, but at this rate only the offenders will be left playing this. Either way, good luck to the innocent people pushing through with a glimmer of hope, I’ve lost all mine.”

It isn’t just the act of duping that’s angering players. Another fan on the subreddit claims to be seeing an influx of hacked weapons, making it much easier for cheaters to kill those playing legitimately. With this coinciding with the duping, some fans express doubt that this even can be fixed, with mellyonzz stating “the damage is done, they have duped everything to high heaven.”

Bethesda has been contacted for comment on this story, but is yet to respond.
