Fallout 76's Steel Dawn content is live for absolutely everyone to jump in and enjoy, and if you've been completing the Fort Atlas quests you may end up finding that The Best Defense is one of the very most difficult in the game so far. Luckily, you will have some help from some high-powered NPCs, but if you're not geared for the end-game, you might struggle with the challenges ahead.
There will be a big firefight, so make sure you come in with all of the weapons, ammo, and healing items you need to survive The Best Defense in Fallout 76.
Fallout 76 The Best Defense Quest Stages Walkthrough
Here we're going to break down the quest step-by-step. Most of it is pretty simple and straightforward, and it'll be that big firefight while planting bombs that'll likely be the most difficult part.
Speak to Scribe Valdez
Immediately after finishing the Over And Out quest, which culminates in Paladin Rahmani destroying the transmitter, speak to Scribe Valdez. She'll be in the main room in Fort Atlas with Paladin Rahmani and Knight Shin.
Reinforce the Brotherhood barricade
Head down into the Atlas Substructure to reinforce the Brotherhood barricade. All that actually means is head downstairs and get ready for battle, so this is your final chance to get those emergency supplies.
Speak to Scribe Valdez
Self-explanatory, she's just stood there.
Reach the Super Mutants' entry point
Right, this is where things get serious. You'll be marching down into the underground tunnels along with Paladin Rahmani and Knight Shin - they'll still be arguing over the situation in the Over And Out quest. Follow close to them if you get lost, and watch out, there will be Super Mutants everywhere. You may need to shoot or detonate blockades on your way down.
Plant bombs on Super Mutant entry points (0/4)
Once you find yourself deep enough in the tunnels the quest stage will change and you'll have four Super Mutant entry points marked on your map, and you'll have to plant bombs that were provided to you by Scribe Valdez. All of the bomb plant points will be at the bottom of a broken grate, and luckily your compass will point to each entry point, so you will be able to find them easily in the tunnels joining to the room you entered as your quest stage updated.
Retreat to a safe distance
Once you've planted the bombs, run back to where you entered the room.
Watch the fireworks
Boom, baby.
Speaker to the Brotherhood upstairs
Now you just need to return to the Brotherhood and chat to them. You can use the elevator in the middle of the room to take you most of the way back to the surface, and then it's just a short job through the Atlas Substructure before you find the entrance back to Fort Atlas.
Quest completed
Find Paladin Rahmani, Knight Shin, and Scribe Valdez discussing things upstairs in the main room of Fort Atlas. They certainly won't come to an agreement, but this will conclude your quest, and the Brotherhood of Steel questline as a whole. Congratulations!
