Originally painted as a vault dedicated to nature conservation, Vault 96 harbors a dark past tied to genetic mutations. The vault suffered further defamation at the hands of Dr. Blackburn and his FEV experiments and has since become a Daily Ops location in Fallout 76.
With last month’s Steel Reign update on July 7, 2021, Vault 96 became more accessible, allowing players to freely explore the location any time outside of their Daily Ops duties. While that’s all well and good, Vault 96 is well isolated and not likely to be happened upon by chance.
So how do you find it? We’ll show you where to find Vault 96, along with a rundown of what you can expect to discover within the sinister location.
Locating Vault 96
Vault 96 isn’t all that hard to find; it’s just a little out of the way, located in Appalachia’s Savage Divide. It is positioned in the sparse wasteland between the Federal Disposal Field HZ-21 and Lake Eloise.
The easiest way to reach the vault is by heading down Route 103, which splits off from Route 101 between the R&G Station and the Spruce Knob Lake and Campgrounds. You'll find Vault 96 sitting at the end of the long desolate road.
What’s Inside Vault 96?
Now that players can finally access the vault, we have learned that Vault 96 is actually quite expansive, so let's take a look at what you will find in each sector. According to the Fallout 76 Fandom page, you can find the following:

In the way of threats, be prepared to face off against the numerous Blood Eagles that now dominate the area, along with a few Robots.
- The Blood Eagles especially will provide the best source of loot while exploring Vault 96.
- You’ll be able to loot gear such as various combat rifles and armor from the Blood Eagles you kill, and it has been reported that there is a T-45 lying on a table inside one of the rooms. However, this is about the extent of the valuable loot to be found.
- Even First-Aid materials that are usually commonplace inside vaults are scarce in Vault 96. The best you’ll likely pick up is a few Stimpaks off of slain Blood Eagles.
- Before heading inside, there is an elevated helipad where you can loot a pair of black-rim sunglasses and some miscellaneous junk. The Vault itself is stocked with the remnants of daily life in a vault, such as Hard Hats, Gas Masks, and even a Chef’s Hat.
- If you’re trying to maintain a standard of fashion amidst this post-apocalyptic society, keep your eyes peeled for a set of Greaser Jacket and Jeans to match the sunglasses found out by the helipad.
- You’ll be able to scavenge for some general food items, such as that looted from containers, along with a bit of Beer, Moonshine, and Rum. Players have also reported finding Ash Rose within the vault, but these seem to be randomly generated, with no guarantee of finding one.
The remainder of what you will find is limited to more miscellaneous junk and scrap pieces, along with various Notes that denote the vault’s bleak history.
