The great crypto crash of 2022 has cost a lot of people a lot of money, including those holding the rights to a certain brand of boat-owning fatigued monkeys. While the Bored Ape Yacht Club was once the face of an NFT-laden future, now it’s the symbol of cryptocurrency’s great hubris. So it makes sense that someone would take that symbol and memorialize it in Fallout New Vegas.

The NFT Memorial Mod, courtesy of modmaker ChadNobarkMods, takes a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT (don’t ask me which one--I don’t keep track of them all) and uses its image to replace the texture normally found on the War Memorial at Boulder City. That texture is nominally the names of many a fallen NCR soldier that died during the First Battle of Hoover Dam, but with this mod, it becomes a memorial to the fallen value of a friend’s NFT.

Things get a lot more interesting when you add in Private Kowalski, who is normally there to pay his respects to his dead brother. In the base game, you can deface the memorial to make Kowalski and most of the locals extremely upset with you, but with the mod, you can shoot up his favorite NFT to make Kowalski go ape-shit.

Best of all, you can use the in-game camera (the Codac R9000) to take a screenshot of Kowalski standing next to the NFT and he’ll get just as angry as if you’d shot the memorial with real bullets. That’s because New Vegas codes the R9000 camera as a ranged weapon, so the game thinks you’re shooting bullets rather than shooting pictures. This has the added bonus of making it seem like Kowalski is upset about the player “stealing” an NFT.

If you're after a New Vegas mod that has less to do with NFTs, might I suggest this mod that overhauls New Vegas's melee animations to have a little more oomph? Melee was already quite viable in Fallout New Vegas, but this mod definitely takes hand-to-hand combat to the Nth degree.
