Famicom Detective Club has been around since the '80s but hasn't had much attention until recently. As of today, you can now play both The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind on Nintendo Switch. These Detective Club games have been remade with updated art and voice acting.

These mystery adventure games were developed and published by Nintendo in 1988 and 1989. The Missing Heir was released first and the reception was very positive, so a year later, Nintendo published The Girl Who Stands Behind. Wondering why you haven't heard much about these games prior to the Nintendo Switch release? Famicom Detective Club games were only released in Japan. Prior to this 2021 release, there was no official English translation for either title. The games were almost 'lost' to history, until 2019, when Nintendo announced the release of the new remakes.

After over 30 years though, the Famicom Detective Club duology is available in English. The games focus on a young man who must solve mysteries in Japan's countryside. Gameplay involves examining evidence and suspects to solve the case. The second game, The Girl Who Stands Behind, is a prequel to The Missing Heir. Although the games go together, the stories stand alone.

As mentioned above, these remakes have voice acting. The original games didn't have any voices; instead, all plot and story elements were delivered by text on the screen. Now, with voices, we can experience the emotion of different characters. The cast includes actors such as Megumi Ogata (Nagito Komaeda from Danganronpa) and Akio Otsuka (All For One from My Hero Academia).

The Famicom Detective Club games were originally written by Yoshio Sakamoto. You may know him as the developer behind Metroid games. For the 2021 releases, he has rejoined the team as a producer. Sakamoto is well-known for his work, so with the Famicom Detective Club remakes, we can expect to see two great games.

If you like visual novel-style mystery games, then this is the game for you. You can buy both games for $59.98, or just one for $34.99. Looking for more new releases? Subnautica: Below Zero also released on May 14. The game is available on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
