The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already has critically acclaimed graphics, but it's now possible to make them look even better thanks to a mod that improves character models and textures.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was praised at launch for having some of the most vibrant graphics ever seen at the time. The player could easily just put Geralt on his horse and ride around the countryside, marveling at the incredible detail that had been put into the foliage. The character models were also impressive, even if the romantic scenes still resembled two Barbie dolls being rubbed against each other.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released four years ago in 2015, and graphics have come a long way since then. CD Projekt Red is currently busy with Cyberpunk 2077, so the task of updating the graphics falls to modders. A Nexus Mod user named Halk Hogan has created The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, which improves the graphics in the PC version of the game.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project improves the textures of almost everything in the game, ranging from background elements, to clothing, to skin. A comparison of the new textures with the ones from the original game can be seen in the demonstration video. Halk Hogan mentions that all of the changes were made with the spirit of the original game in mind.

Those who want to use the mod won't need to worry too much about a performance hit to the game, as the changes have been made with optimization in mind. The mod will require a little more work to run in comparison to the base version of the game, but any noticeable hit to performance will depend on the user's PC.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project is available now on Nexus Mods.
