So, how’s 2018 been treating you so far? If that resolution to hit the gym three times a week hasn’t quite panned out, don’t worry yourself. It’s early days yet.

One thing we gamers do like to get on top of early, on the other hand, is our is our list of Big Releases Of The Year™. Some of these are fairly universal ones, like last month’s Monster Hunter World or the freshly-released Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 for Switch. Others, like Dragon Ball FighterZ, are a little more niche. FighterZ may not have been on your radar, and here comes Super Sonic with a couple of Chaos Emeralds full of why the freak not?

As fighting game veterans will know, FighterZ is brought to us by Arc System Works. These guys simply rule the 2D fighter world, with such franchises as Blazblue and Guilty Gear under their belts. The company is known for super flashy fighters that still require technical skill, and that’s just the perfect combination with Dragon Ball Z.

After all, has the Dragon Ball franchise ever been known to give a darn? Even a single one? Of course it hasn’t. Flashy action with kamehamas and teleporting everywhere are the name of the game. You know who else knows a thing or two about that? Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic’s transformation into Super Sonic takes all kinds of different forms, depending on the game you’re playing or the anime you’re watching. Super Sonic is usually characterised by two things: the need to collect all of the Chaos Emeralds to ‘unlock’ him, and the ridiculous fireworks that go off everywhere when you do.

When it comes to making mods for Dragon Ball FighterZ, then, it’s hard to imagine a better candidate to add to the roster. The guy just fits, as you can see in this quick demonstration clip from ImpracticalGaming.

This little slice of fanservice is a collaboration between a talented band of modders. As of the time of writing, it isn’t available quite yet, but it’s shaping up to be a sight to behold. After all, these fanservice mashups are some of the best things about the modding scene. You haven’t lived until you’ve rampaged through Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as the Hulk.
