It's no secret that Bungie has been going through a rough patch with Destiny 2. The community has been pretty vocal about its criticism of Lightfall and almost everything else that came with it. Seasoned players know of the devs putting out good expansions on an alternating basis, but even by that standard, the latest one seems like Destiny 2's lowest point.

At this stage, one would consider whether to build something better on top of what already exists, or to wipe the slate clean and make something new using everything they've learnt. Of course, there is a lot to consider when it comes to making a new live service game, especially when it's the game every other game wants to be.

But when has lack of knowledge about a subject stopped anyone from debating it? It seems like a lot of players in the community think it's time for Bungie to start anew, with Destiny 3. A Tweet by The Destiny Show, a podcast and community for the game, simply says, "Unpopular opinion: Destiny 3 needs to happen." And it seems like a lot of people agree.

"The cracks are starting to become more & more noticeable — every day," replies ZayOsiris Gaming. "Let’s hope they’re having some internal discussions on how to go about D3 or ways to stabilize the current system. Because patching one hole almost always makes a new one."

While some players think the fault lies in the narrative and live service features of the game, others feel that the game is suffering from a much larger issue. Another player named suttn says it "needs a new engine most desperately, the devs themselves find it hard to work with [****ing] Tiger, I honestly wouldn't mind a D3 if they dont launch it completely [****ing] barebones like D2 was."

While most of the replies are in agreement that Bungie needs to start working on a third game, there aere a few that are opposed to the idea. However, their issues are more to do with starting all over, rather than liking the game's current condition.

"Never had so much fun playing the same character lasting years building them out, and the idea of a Destiny 3 reset makes me want to throw up," explains Andrew Ols. "I get the game reasons why people want it but I feel like I may drop it if I have to start over."

Bungie has given no hint that it is, or even will explore a third game in the series. As I mentioned earlier, a decision to sunset the current game and break ground on a new one has way more contributing factors than most of us could even think of. Regardless, it's evident that Bungie needs to win back its community.
