If you want to stay alive long enough to defeat Joseph Seed you'll need the right perks. Here are the ones you're looking for. Perks are one of the main ways to upgrade your character.

Far Cry 5 is built around Perks, Perk Points, and awesome weapons. The weapons are pretty cool but you could have the most powerful kit in the game and still get nowhere unless you have the perks to match it.

It's worth looking at how you play the game and the elements you're better at so you don't prioritize perks you don't need. Nevertheless, for the most part, these perks will be lifesavers to you on your journey through Montana.

Updated, 10 May 2022, by Jessica Filby: While Far Cry 6 is a fantastic game, many still end up going back to the one before to get that true Far Cry experience. After all, Far Cry 5 has a great storyline and battles that are both parts challenging and satisfying. However, such satisfaction can only be achieved with the right weapons and the perks. Here are some more you just have to get a hold of when you can.

15 Harvest Master

Finding money is a little hard in Far Cry 5. You need it for so many things and it just seems like a pain to get a hold of for the most part. One of the main sources of a steady income is through the hunting of animals and the sale of the harvest.

This is where Harvest Master comes into its own. The perk doubles the reward you get when looting plants and animals. Double the loot means double the money upon sale. It costs eight points and can be found under the Survivalist Perks.

14 Throwback

Nothing is more satisfying than picking up and tossing a grenade back at the enemy who threw it at you. Luckily, there's a perk that does just that.

Throwback allows you to catch grenades, dynamite, and really any other projectile, then throw it right back at the enemy. It's great fun and makes you feel like a badass. It also doesn't waste any of your own projectiles. It costs seven points and can be found under the Assassin Perks.

13 Sneaky Sprint

Sneaky Sprint Perk and image

While it all really depends on how you want to play the game, Far Cry 5 requires an element of stealth for certain battles. While that takes skill to master, some players don't have the patience to stealth their way into a battle while crouching. It's frustratingly slow and many end up giving up on stealth and just rushing in.

With the Sneaky Sprint perk, those boring sequences of crouching and moving slowly are over. This perk almost doubles your movement speed when crouched, giving you more mobility and making it quicker to sneak into battle. It costs four points and can be found under the Assassin Perks.

12 Fisher King

Far Cry 5 isn't exactly a fishing and hunting game but it does serve a few good uses and can be a valuable source of income. Fisher King makes those calming fishing moments a little easier.

This perk will make the fish tire a little faster and will also make it easier for you to catch heavier and therefore more valuable fish. It's a fun moneymaker that's different from the normal gameplay and is one you should definitely get if you love to fish. It costs four points and can be found under the Survivalist Perks.

11 Takedown Mastery

Back to the thrill and dangers of battle, this is a fantastic perk for anyone looking for a little sneak attack. It's great for stealth and relatively entertaining to watch when you sneak up behind an unsuspecting enemy and take them down without alerting anyone else. It's one of the best elements of the game.

Takedown Mastery is a perk that grants you the ability to use chain, melee, and sidearm takedowns, therefore unlocking an entirely new way to play the game. This is ideal for anyone looking to thin the group before going in guns blazing.

It costs six points and can be found under the Assassin Perks.

10 King Of The Jungle

Animals can be the bane of your existence when exploring Montana. One minute you're happily wandering along and the next there are some teeth in your leg. Alternatively, this perk is for you if you're looking for a little bit of extra income but you just can't grab that slippery hare.

It essentially reduces attack damage from animals and forces predators to ignore you if there's another threat nearby. It can also make it so animals flee less often which can relieve a fair amount of frustration. It costs six points and can be found under the Survivalist Perks.

9 Black Market

Nothing's worse than setting off for your next quest and realizing you have no Molotovs left. This is exactly why the Black Market Perk is one of the best in the game.

The perk allows you to grab craftable remote explosives, Molotovs, pipe bombs, sticky upgrades, and even special ammo from all shops. You'll never be short on pipe bombs again - unless you don't have any money. It costs six points and can be brought from the Survivalist Perks list.

8 Grapple

Most of these perks are good for certain skills, but they're rarely so important that you can't play without them. The Grapple perk is one of those rarities. Without it, you're unable to go down cliff faces which can hinder your exploration.

Grab this perk while you can and you'll never have to go around a massive cliff just to get down to the lower parts of Montana. After all, it only costs one point from the Assassin Perks list.

7 Nimble Fingers

While a fair amount of players prefer to go into a tough situation guns blazing, it's not always the best idea and can often make that battle end pretty quickly. So when you want to go stealth, it's so important to make sure you can put down those booby traps on vehicles or sabotage the enemy before they get to where they're going.

It also allows you to craft items a little quicker - it's very useful when you're in a rush. Costing four points in the Assassin Perks list, it's not too costly and worth having.

6 Ghost

While Nimble Fingers may allow you to get those traps set quickly, nothing's worse than sneaking into a bunch of enemies only for them to hear you as you jump off a wall. This is where Ghost comes in.

It will allow you to make much less noise whenever you're walking, sprinting, or jumping off things. It also reduces the damage you'll take from the drop. Perfect for anyone who loves stealth or sneaking without too much effort.

It's a pretty pricy perk, costing seven points in the Assassin Perks list.

5 Leadership

Getting a gun for hire is a game-changer. It can make you feel more powerful and will save your life on more than one occasion. So having two friends to help you out is a no-brainer!

The Leadership perk will allow you to unlock an additional slot to let you play with two Guns for Hire in one go, but only in single player. If you play on your own, this is just perfect. It costs six points and is part of the Leader Perks list.

4 Repair Torch

There're a fair amount of perks that allow you to craft, fix or disable aspects of the game. So it can be pretty overwhelming when you're looking for the right perk for the job. If repairing or breaking in is your aim, make the Repair Torch your priority.

This perk provides you with a tool that's added to your utility wheel. It can open safes or repair vehicles, perfect for infiltrating a base and getting out fast. It will cost you five points from the Survivalist Perks list.

3 Locksmith

While Repair Torch is a pretty useful perk, it's nothing without Locksmith. It's easily the best perk pairing in the game, which makes it vital to getting rich and getting loot without wasting ammo or health.

Locksmith allows you to unlock doors and safes without setting off the alarm (if you're a little stealthy, there's no guarantee), so with the Repair Torch, you can grab so much loot you won't even know where to put it.

It's one of the more expensive perks, costing six points in the Assassin Perks list, but it's ideal for a stealthy break-in.

2 Additional Holster

Using a bow is pretty cool at the start but can get a little underpowered as the game goes on. So when you start noticing the bow isn't as good, or if you're just getting a little bored of it, grab the Additional Holster perk.

This perk essentially gives you a third weapon slot so you don't need to keep dropping cool weapons!

This way you can have your rocket launcher, sniper, and rifle all at hand. There is another perk like this named Weapons Collector that allows you to get a fourth once you kill Faith, John, or Jacob. So stack these two and you'll be golden.

Additional Holster costs you 8 points and Weapons Collector is 9 points. Both are from the Prepper Perks list.

1 Health Boost

Obviously, it depends on your playstyle, but most players tend to make themselves feel a little less squishy at the beginning of the game. If this is you then one of the first perks you want to focus on is the Health Boost perks. There are four in total so grab some when you feel like you're health is depleting a bit quicker than you'd like.

Health Boost can increase your maximum health by a considerable amount:

Perk

Maximum Health Increase

Health Boost 1

150%

Health Boost 2

200%

Health Boost 3

250%

Health Boost 4

300%

Grab these when you can. Health Boost costs six, seven, eight, and nine points respectively as you get each perk. They can be found in the Survivalist Perks list.
