If you’re familiar with the series, then you’ll find that Far Cry 6 brings back the same explosive feeling featured throughout the previous games. Armed to the teeth with a wide range of weapons and vehicles, Dani Rojas is on a mission to eliminate the tyrant Anton Castillo and free the country of Yara.

Far Cry 6 can be a bit intimidating from the onset. After a brief brush with death, it takes a while to assess your footing and whereabouts on the island. Even when you meet with Clara Garcia and Libertad, there will still be growing pains in the early parts of your journey to free Yara. These beginner tips will help steer you on an early path toward success and make your Far Cry 6 experience more enjoyable.

10 Accessibility Options

First and foremost, you’ll want to set your accessibility options properly. Many people tend to overlook customizing a game’s accessibility settings, thinking whatever the default is must be good enough. That’s your first mistake. Adjusting the accessibility options can make your life so much easier and elevate an experience from “good” to “great.”

One of the biggest settings to adjust is highlighting enemies and items. Depending on your preferences, highlighting enemies yellow can make them pop on the map, even before you scan them with Dani’s cellphone. It’s also beneficial to highlight items because there are numerous crafting items scattered all around Yara.

9 Mini Map

In most action-adventure games, there’s a mini-map that helps you navigate the immediate surrounding area. It’s important to develop a habit of checking your mini-map frequently for points of interest, enemies, or special items. Before you spot enemies with your cellphone or gun scope, the surrounding area will be a red mist, indicating enemies are near. If the map is a dark red that means there are multiple soldiers in the area.

Points of interest will be identified by exclamation points, which will then reveal several key pieces of information, like new hunting sites, Yaran story missions, or FND-controlled areas to attack. You can increase the size of the mini-map in the accessibility settings.

8 Workbench

Besides unique weapons, Dani Rojas can modify their arsenal in a variety of ways. You can’t expect to liberate Yara with iron sights and standard ammo, so it’s vital to get comfortable on workbenches. Available in virtually all bases and guerrilla hideouts, workbenches serve as your modification weapon station.

The key ingredient for installing weapon modifications is Gun Powder. Gun Powder is mostly found in various caches around the island or FND airdrops that can be stolen. Modifications include suppressors, scopes, special ammo types, and various attribute mods like refunding bullet rounds for headshots, faster reloads, and increased movement speed when taking damage to name a few. Remember rule number nine: always use the right tool for the right job.

7 Scouting

Far Cry 6 welcomes a reckless, guns-blazing game style, and utter chaos reigns. Sure, it’s pretty badass to fly in on a parachute strapped with an RPG, but subtleness is a virtue. With their cellphone, Dani Rojas can scout an area first and identify enemies, security cameras, and alarms.

When targeting an enemy, you can spot what weaknesses they have toward certain ammo types and they’ll appear as solid red icons on the mini-map. Stealth attacking enemy bases will reduce the chances of FND reinforcements, as well as any possible aerial assaults. If you don’t own a rocket launcher of some kind, nor an assault Supremo equipped, taking down enemy helicopters can be difficult.

6 Disable Alarms

When attempting to capture an FND checkpoint or base, there will typically be alarms or cameras nearby. You can spot them by scouting the area with your cellphone. Security cameras can be shot down from afar, preferably with a suppressed weapon to remain undetected. Don’t overlook shooting down cameras because if a dead body is in its view, the camera will alert the enemy forces. Alarms, on the other hand, can only be disabled manually, which takes about seven seconds.

Now, it’s quite possible to eliminate all FND soldiers without being detected despite not disabling alarms. However, that’s a risky approach because sound alarms will bring in heavy FND reinforcements, including aerial assaults. Also, you’ll receive bonus resources if no alarms go off and if you remain completely undetected.

5 Capturing Checkpoints

FND-controlled checkpoints throughout Yara will have spikes in place to blow out the tires of your sweet ride. In doing so, your method of transport will be compromised and enemy forces will descend on you quickly. If checkpoints have alarm systems, those will also be initiated and soon, you’ll find yourself in a pool of hot water.

Being alert toward your whereabouts by looking at the mini-map can help you avoid sticky situations like this. It’s easy to lose yourself driving through Yara and stumble upon an FND checkpoint. After killing the soldiers and destroying Anton Castillo’s billboard, the checkpoint will be captured for Libertad and can be used as a fast travel location.

4 Skydiving

Yara is a pretty big country and fast travel might not always be available. There are quite a few different types of transportation available for Dani Rojas, including cars, boats, horses, planes, and helicopters. Using planes and helicopters can be the fastest method of transportation, but also the most dangerous.

Scattered around the island are anti-aircraft turrets that will shoot you down instantly if you enter the restricted airspace. Luckily, Dani Rojas has a parachute and wingsuit equipped to safely make their descent to the ground. It's important to know that using the wingsuit solely will not result in a safe landing; the parachute is the only way to ensure zero fall damage. It can be a bit tricky maneuvering Dani Rojas in the air with the parachute, but it surely beats crashing to the ground in a fiery heap of metal.

3 Bribe FND Soldiers

Utilizing the mini-map with help steer you to important items or points of interest. When finding new guerrilla hideouts, other guerrillas will have information on FND supply drops or anti-aircraft turrets to destroy. Well, they aren’t the only ones in Yara with precious intel.

Some FND soldiers who, mostly, don’t want to die at the hands of Dani Rojas and Libertad would rather fork over intel in exchange for Yaran pesos. These double agents will be identified by the exclamation point, and will only talk to you if your weapons are holstered. If you approach a double agent with your gun out, they’ll take that as an act of aggression and open fire.

2 Call For A Ride

On the weapon wheel, Dani Rojas can summon a car to their location, if they’re close to a driveable road. This can be extremely handy if fast traveling isn’t available or convenient, or maybe you just want to cruise around Yara listening to music.

But the major benefit in calling for a ride is being able to refill your ammo. By approaching the trunk, Dani can restock any lost ammo and gadgets but there is a 30-minute cooldown. Typically, there aren’t too many instances where you’ll be completely strapped for ammo, but if it happens, knowing you can stock back up with your vehicle can be a lifesaver.

1 Amigos

A staple in the series, Far Cry 6 brings back the ability to have an animal companion assist Dani Rojas in combat. There are a total of seven Amigos in Far Cry 6, but only five are obtainable through the campaign: Guapo, Chorizo, Chicharron, Boom Boom, and Oluso. The other two, K9000 and Champagne, are only accessible through the Blood Dragon and Vice Pack sets, respectively.

Amigos can be a great help for Dani fighting against FND soldiers. Guapo and Chicharron are Combat Amigos, meaning, they specialize in taking the fight straight to the enemy. Chorizo, Boom Boom, and Oluso prefer a more subtle approach, as they’re categorized as Stealth Amigos. Each possesses its own unique abilities that will develop by completing specific requirements.
