If you happened to get a Far Cry 6 beta invite, you probably shouldn't open it. Ubisoft today confirmed that the recent emails making their way to fans' inboxes are not official and are linked to a phishing scam.
The announcement was made through Twitter, as the official Ubisoft Support account replied to a popular YouTuber. "We can confirm the email regarding FC6 beta access is a phishing attempt," said Ubisoft. "It has been reported. Please do not respond if you have received this email or similar. Thank you for the report!"
According to the original comment, the attached virus "watches your screen and records everything you do." At first glance the email appears to be legit, claiming to be from the official Ubisoft address and containing an embargo with a password required for access. So if you happen to receive an email in the future – or already have one sitting in your inbox – go ahead and send it to the trash.
Far Cry 6 was originally set to launch on February 18 but was delayed to an unspecified time before March 2022. Fans are no doubt itching to get their hands on the highly anticipated game, making the phishing attempt all the more damning.
Far Cry 6 will eventually release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.
