In Farming Simulator 22 there are hundreds of essentials that you’ll need throughout your farming endeavor. Luckily, you can buy what you need or lease it, depending on how long-term the need is (or how much time you plan to sink into a specific crop).

In the beginning, you have $100,000 in the bank to start up your farm, but that will go quickly as you buy crops and machines. Deciding what you need immediately- and what can wait for your first payday- can seem daunting. Ideally, you’ll have figured out what you want to focus on growing, and from there you’ll just need to purchase the basics.

7 Small Tractor

There are different size categories of tractors for different needs, and straight off you’ll want to make sure you have a smaller one. Though you may think the smaller ones are limited and therefore not worth your time, they actually come in handy for navigating tight areas of your farm.

With finite funds, you’ll want to consider the Buhrer 6105 or the Massey Ferguson MF 4700M. The Buhrer has 100 horsepower, and will only set you back $39,000 - the most cost-efficient of the small tractors. The Massey Ferguson tractor has between 82 and 100 horsepower, with a price tag between 50 to 60 thousand dollars.

6 Medium Tractor

For the jobs that require a bit more than the small tractor, you’ll want the medium-sized option. As you begin harvesting your growing crops, you’ll need a tractor with power that can haul loads and pull trailers and accessories. Most of the tractors will cost more than your starting funds, so you may want to consider leasing, or waiting a bit to accumulate fast cash from non-farming things like logging or cattle.

If you are able to purchase a medium tractor, the cheapest two are the John Deere 7810 and Massey Ferguson MF 3670. Despite being the cheapest, they are powerful and effective, with the John Deere offering 175 horsepower and the Massey Ferguson 170. Both cost just shy of $100,000.

5 Trailer

As you reap what you sow, you’ll need a trailer to haul your crops to their various mills and selling locations. There are quite a few different options, and it really comes down to your budget and your needs when hauling.

That said, the Brantner TA 23065 is relatively cost-efficient at $33,000 and has a decent hauling capacity. It’s not the biggest, but it’s also not the smallest, and it’s built quite sturdy for the price.

4 Harvester

Which harvester(s) you get really depends on what your overall crop goals for your farm are. There are eight options to choose from, with some being used for a singular crop. Before you buy a harvester based solely on price, make sure it will serve your farm long-term.

Beets, potatoes, cotton, grapes, olives, and sugarcane all require a specialized harvester, so consider if you’ll even have these on your farm in the beginning - or at all. There’s also the forage harvester for logging. If you do want to grow any of these, you may want to lease the machinery until you’ve collected your first paycheck. Since most of the crops are grains, getting the combine harvester is a good investment early on. You’ll also want to invest in a grain header when going this route.

3 Plow

Some crops in Farming Simulator 22 don’t require plowing - particularly the root crops like potatoes - but it’s still wise to have one for your farm. You will need it for any grains you plan to grow, and if you do use it when planting root crops, it gives a boost to your harvest yield.

As you grow your farm you’ll have more and more reason to get a plow, so it’s best to grab it early in the game. This way you build the habit of using it each harvest/sowing rotation and get any potential benefits it offers the crops.

2 Spreader

To ensure the health and growth of your crops, you’ll need a fertilizer/manure spreader. There are plenty of options available in a wide range of pricing, but the Amazone brand has a few within the 20 to 30 thousand dollar range.

The Amazone ZA-TS 3200 or the Amazone KG 3001 are both viable options, but ultimately your needs and fertilizer type will determine which you want to select. If you’re using the manure your livestock produces, you may want to go with a heavier machine designated specifically for manure.

1 Seeder

Like the spreader, your needs and the demands of your farm will dictate which seeder you use. There are over a dozen to pick from, and they range in price from 23 to nearly 170 thousand dollars, and all offer different seed capacities.

Another factor you’ll want to keep in mind when picking your seeder is the power they require, as well as their working width. This piece of machinery may not be one that you can skimp on price if its production doesn’t match the crop you’re planting. You can, however, get seeders with cultivators combined, eliminating another piece of equipment from your list of purchases.
