Fashion Police Squad is a tongue-in-cheek shooter designed like retro first-person shooters, AKA “Boomer Shooters”. There are tons of references and meme-inspired jokes sprinkled throughout gameplay, some of which may require the non-fashionista players to do some research.

You play as Sergeant Des, a sewing machine-toting officer of the law ready to call out anyone committing crimes against fashion. Despite the carefree and downright silly concept behind the game, Fashion Police Squad combines the classic first-person shooter feel of games like Doom with a modern sense of humor to make a challenging yet enjoyable game.

7 Remember It’s A Shooter

It can be very easy to get lost in the ridiculous idea of actual fashion police wielding sewing machines as weapons, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy game. At its heart, it is a first-person shooter with direct enemies and targets to hit.

Treating Fashion Police Squad like a joke – though the ones they make in-game are hilarious – will only make the game harder to play. Some levels are more difficult than others, so remember going in that strategy is important.

6 You Get Two Weapons

You can only carry two weapons with you at once, and there are five total to choose from in the game. They’re all fashion-related items, like the practical sewing machine or the comical sock gnome.

Keeping in mind strategy is important, picking the two weapons you’ll carry needs to be a thought-out plan. You have unlimited ammo with all weapons, but don’t think you can rely on just one for the entire level or game. Every fashion crime is different and will require different measures to resolve, so alternating between the two weapons is your best option.

5 Lose Levels

Obviously, no one wants to lose when they’re playing games, but it can be to your benefit. Some levels are notably harder than others, and what you struggle with may be different from what others struggle with, but ultimately the advice is the same: lose. It may take you a few playthroughs of a level to notice all of the details, but making a mental note of what goes right and what goes wrong will help you win.

You might also find that, although you beat a level, there are achievements you don’t unlock. This, too, is solved by taking the extra time to look around and pay attention to the finer details of your surroundings.

4 Hone Your Sniper Skills

As you play, you’ll notice some levels require sniper skills to beat to 100 percent completion. There will be fashion criminals hiding high and low from you, and the only way to reach them is to snipe them. You may not care to 100 percent Fashion Police Squad, and that’s fine, too, but just know the only way to do it is to have excellent sniper skills.

Depending on your gameplay style, you may spend most of the levels running through at full blast with your sewing machine, so when the time comes to use your sniper skills you have trouble. This is why it’s important to take the time to master the skill little by little as you play.

3 You’re Helping, Not Hurting

Fashion Police Squad Gameplay Fabulous

Though it’s classified as a first-person shooter and you have ‘unlimited ammo’ and ‘sniper skills’, you’re not killing any of the criminals in Fashion Police Squad. Your goal is to help the people committing fashion faux pas like wearing socks with their sandals, leaving them – as the game puts it – fabulous, chic, and glamorous.

The game itself is very inclusive, and aside from some mild humor, is fairly family-friendly by today’s standards (though no exact rating has been assigned to the game). It’s also a great game if you don’t like jump scares or excessive gore since the overall feel is light and fun.

2 Understand The Challenge

Fashion Police Squad Difficulty Setting Menu

You can only change the difficulty level of Fashion Police Squad at the very beginning of the game. You may be the type of player that takes on more than they can chew straight away, or you may assume being the Fashion Police can’t possibly be difficult, but either way, try the lower difficulty first.

Fashion Police Squad does a decent job of training you to prepare for gameplay, but it also throws new things at you quickly. If you start with harder difficulty settings you may not enjoy the game nearly as much as it deserves. Regardless of what setting you pick, just be ready for the challenge accordingly – and remember you can always start a new game at a different difficulty level if you need/want!

1 Enjoy The Humor

Fashion Police Squad Meeting Deep Coat Gameplay

Although you want to remember the shooter aspect of Fashion Police Squad, and you definitely don’t want to think the game is a joke, do be sure to take the time to appreciate the humor. Some of it comes in the form of silly puns – like the confidential informant Deep Coat – while other chuckles come from outfits and dances, and of course, the actual crimes against fashion.

As much effort went into the script for Fashion Police Squad as the gameplay, so make sure you’re enjoying every possible aspect while you play.
