Pro Fortnite player Cented has been removed from FaZe Clan after he said the N-word during a recent stream. A clip of Cented using racist language has circulated online, leading FaZe Clan to take action."FaZe is constantly evolving and we expect our members to do the same," wrote FaZe in a statement. "Cented is permanently removed from FaZe due to his use of hate speech. We, and the gaming community at large can’t tolerate discriminatory language any longer."Cented joined FaZe Clan in March 2021. The 19-year-old Fortnite player has over 200,000 followers on Twitch and almost 50,000 subscribers on YouTube.
Prior to FaZe’s statement, Cented acknowledged the break on Twitter, admitting he made a “mistake” for which there were "no excuses." A longer apology soon followed.
"First and foremost, I am sorry. Not sorry I was exposed, but sorry because I should’ve known better," Cented wrote. "I can’t hide behind my age or cluelessness for leaving a word like that in my vocabulary. It shouldn’t be in my vocabulary at all. As an adult, I should know better. I had all the information in front of me for knowing better and still chose to act wrongly. For that, I am sorry.
"To the Fortnite community and the community that’s given me a platform and a voice, I’m sorry for acting in this way. I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to be an example, a role model and arguably a decent human being and chose not to. I chose to put myself and everything I represent in jeopardy by being immature. I am ashamed of myself and my actions.
"To those that I’ve offended, I am sorry. I am not racist, but chose to allow a racial word into my vocabulary. I should know better. I can’t say enough how preventable this is. I am sorry for my deep disrespect and disregarding the true nature and history of that word. My willful ignorance is inexcusable."
This isn’t the first time a FaZe Clan member has courted controversy. At the beginning of June, Talal "Virus" Almalki said he doesn’t “suppoprt any kind of LGBTQ or anything” in response to an official FaZe Clan Twitter post wishing everyone a "Happy Pride Month." Virus’s post has since been deleted, but not before drawing fire on social media. He is still a part of FaZe Clan at the time of writing.
