JP Games, the new studio started by Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata, will be releasing The Pegasus Dream Tour next month on June 24. The Pegasus Dream Tour is the first project from the studio, which launched in January 2019.

The Pegasus Dream Tour is a Paralympic mobile avatar RPG that will allow players to create virtual avatars based on selfies that can compete in various para-sports such as boccia and track and field in a virtual Paralympic games.  It's the first video game to ever have the official Paralympics license.

The game was originally announced over two years ago and was intended to create interest in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic games. However, the video game, and the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic games, were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a statement released at the time of the game's announcement, Tabata commented, "JP GAMES is going to represent fully the wonders that are unique to Paralympic sports in this brand-new role-playing game – a genre we excel in." He seems confident that his experience on the RPG series Final Fantasy will enable him and his studio to bring the Paralympics to the virtual world.

Though the very short reveal trailer gives little away about the game, the statement describes players being given special abilities known as Xtra Power that will aid them in events. You'll be able to train your avatar in different para-sports and explore a fantasy metropolis known as Pegasus city. The game will also include nine real-world para-athletes, and Japanese mascot and robot cat, Doraemon.

The statement asserts that the "use of video games is part of the IPC’s [International Paralympics Committe] strategy to increase the engagement of the youth market in the Paralympic Games," which is  "now widely regarded as the world’s third biggest sport event after the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup." The statement concludes that "we [JP Games] want to contribute to the future growth of the Paralympic Games, not just as a sporting event, but as entertainment as well".
