It’s officially September, which means only the spooky month of October separates us from our journey to the moon in Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion. The closer we get, the more unbearable the wait feels, but, as always, there’s still plenty to keep you busy until it’s time to fight Zenos again. This week’s Final Fantasy 14 happenings take us briefly away from the actual game and into the kitchen, and Square Enix has also announced when you can expect to hear from director and producer Naoki Yoshida in a new Live Letter.

FFXIV Adorable Moogle Cake Recipe

Real-Life Culinarian Celebrates Final Fantasy 14’s 8th Birthday

In-game, my Culinarian is level 80, but in any actual kitchen I’m pretty useless. That’s not the case for the Great British Bake Off Star Kim-Joy, though. The famous baker teamed up with Square Enix to prepare a cake worthy of the Moogle King, and the adorable confection featured Spriggans, Cactuars, and Fat Chocobos. It’s a really, really cute cake, which poses a problem when it’s time to eat it.

A few days later, Square and Kim-Joy revealed just how you can make your own three-tier Final Fantasy 14 lemon cake. The actual shopping list and step-by-step instructions may take you just as long to complete as the grind to level cap, but the results sure do look worth it.

Removing Belts FFXIV

Final Fantasy 14 Is Removing Belts

Earlier this year, Yoshida presented his accidentally hilarious slide on how Final Fantasy 14 would be “removing belts” from the game. For the alarmed outsiders, it’s just taking an equipment slot and trashing it to streamline the gear process. For veterans, it’s the best in-the-know meme.

Anyway, the details on how the actual removal of belts will be carried out and other combat changes should come up at the next Live Letter, which Square Enix has confirmed for September 18. Plenty of other combat changes should be expected, including details on how new classes like Sage and Reaper will work, and the retooling of Astrologian’s kit. Before every expansion, Yoshida and his team typically get quite into the weeds with how new battle changes will function, and this should be our first look at that.

Tales From The Twilight

Final Fantasy 14 has expanded upon its world plenty of times through side stories via the Lodestone. The most recent edition, Tales from the Twilight, is bringing five brand new stories to the realm. The first one, The Burden of Duty, focuses on Yugiri and takes you all the way back to her childhood. The other four will see a staggered launch through September.

Save A Little Gil

Final Fantasy 14’s Optional Item Store is a bit expensive, but right now you can grab some premium in-game goodies at a discount. Even newer pieces of glamour, like the Collegiate attire set and Alphinaud’s ‘fit, have seen their prices cut. The deals aren’t for too long, though. You only have until September 21 to grab anything you’ve been eyeing. I’ll be stocking up on Fantasias, myself.
