77% of FIFA 22's sales during its first week on the market were digital. It's the second year in a row digital sales of the game have far outnumbered physical ones early on.

There are a few games studios can count on to make them money every time they launch a new installment. The biggest money-spinner in that regard for EA might well be FIFA. FIFA 22, the latest edition of the long-running football sim, has been at the top of the boxed chart for three weeks running. EA also revealed 460 million matches were played in FIFA 22 less than a week after it launched.

New data from GfK has revealed more information regarding FIFA 22's launch. Despite only arriving in the last week of September, FIFA was comfortably the best-selling game of the month in the UK. It has also been revealed more people than ever opted to buy a digital copy of FIFA instead of a physical one.

77% of FIFA 22 sales during its first week were digital copies. That's the second time the split has jumped up a significant amount in two years. FIFA 21's digital/physical split was 62%/38% during its opening week. That marked the first time in FIFA's history more people decided to buy a digital copy than a physical one during launch week.

Three other popular sports sims featured in the top five bestsellers in the UK in September. NBA 2K22 at number three, and F1 2021 close behind. Those of you waiting for GTA 6 might want to look away now as in at number two was GTA 5. Even more evidence Rockstar probably isn't in any hurry to replace its hit game as it continues to sell extremely well, surpassing 150 million units sold worldwide earlier this year.

Elsewhere in the top ten you'll find Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The lack of Switch games is somewhat surprising with the highest-charting Nintendo game being Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at number ten. That's due to the fact Nintendo doesn't share digital sales data. Mario Kart and a number of other games would be far higher if digital data was included.
