For some strange reason, the PC version of FIFA 22 won't feature many of the upgrades available on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Instead, it'll be equivalent to the PS4 and Xbox One versions – meaning PC players will miss out on the highly advertised "HyperMotion" animation tech.

According to EA, the move is meant to keep the title accessible to players with a variety of gaming rigs. This isn't anything new to FIFA, either – past installments have always been outpaced by their console counterparts. Still, with so much fanfare about the HyperMotion improvements, it's a bit surprising to see PC players once again left out of the fun.

"When we looked at what generation to put the PC game on, we looked at our fans and what capabilities they had with the hardware they have," Aaron McHardy said. "We have that information to understand what the power of the PCs out there in the world are. When we looked at that, in order to run the gen five game, our min spec would have been at a spot that would have left a lot of people out in the cold not being able to play the game."

Regardless of the reason, it’s a shame players with high-end PCs won't be able to toggle on the next-gen features. Here's hoping a future update fixes the problem – although if the lack of support for previous FIFA titles on PC is anything to go by, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

In other FIFA news, it was recently revealed that the Standard Edition won't come with a free next-gen upgrade. Instead, you'll need to shell out for the Ultimate Edition for that privilege.

Despite some of the disappointing announcements, FIFA 22 is shaping up to be another solid entry for the franchise. That's even more true for PS5 and Series X owners, who'll get to experience a major upgrade from last year, thanks to Hypermotion and its reworked animations.
