FIFA is no longer number one in the UK boxed chart having its reign at number one brought to an end after five weeks.

Even though this time of year is typically pretty busy for new games, it's normally safe to assume that the number one in the UK chart will be tied up by FIFA for a few weeks. That has once again been the case as FIFA 22 went straight to number one in the boxed chart and stayed there for five weeks. Last week, that reign came to an end.

FIFA 22 has dropped to number two, being replaced by Call of Duty: Vanguard. The latest installment in the long-running series has enjoyed a lot of success during its launch weekend despite the ongoing controversy surrounding Activision-Blizzard. A lawsuit accusing many who have done and continue to work in the studio of some pretty heinous things was filed by the state of California earlier this year.

The next highest new entry in last week's chart comes courtesy of Fortnite. Fortnite is obviously a free-to-play game that is downloaded digitally, so doesn't usually qualify for the boxed chart. However, the newly released Minty Legends Pack has resulted in the game registering in the chart's top ten, making it all the way up to number nine.

Guardians of the Galaxy, which arguably posed the biggest threat to FIFA's crown the week before Vanguard arrived, has slipped from the number two spot. It's still in the top ten, registering at number six last week. Mario Party Superstars, which also launched in the same week as Guardians, remains at number three, proving Switch titles have staying power unlike most titles on other platforms.

That's why the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remain in the top ten and will do for a very long time. The latter recently became the best-selling Mario Kart game of all time. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also back in the top ten, likely because more PS5s arrived in the UK last week. Miles will likely stick around in the chart as five jumbo jets filled with PS5s have been flown into the UK over the course of the past few weeks.
