During today's Final Fantasy 14 Letter from the Producer Live, Naoki Yoshida delivered his usual address on the state of Square Enix's beloved MMORPG with details on the new 5.4 patch, including a release date. Futures Rewritten, the latest update to begin the story after Shadowbringer's close, releases December 8 and delivers one of the game's biggest patches yet.

The Shadowbringers expansion has continued to wow fans since its 2019 launch, and the 5.4 patch begins the slow wrap up of the expansion's lifecycle with the end of the Eden Raid tier and the beginning of a new story that will eventually lead to 6.0. Futures Rewritten promises a new line of main scenario quests, an instanced dungeon, primal battle, and raid.

In an update shortly following 5.4, Square Enix will continue to pack in new adventures with a version 5.45. The second update will include content for blue mages and another step for the game's lengthy relic weapon quest.

Final Fantasy 14 players are in for a treat as Futures Rewritten will see much of 5.0's content come to a climax. Eden's Promise, the third tier of the Eden raid series, will close with four new fights in both normal and savage modes. Eden has been a journey steeped in nostalgia for long-time Final Fantasy fans, as the music and the behemoth creature Eden itself is a throwback to Final Fantasy 8. Yoshida also revealed a peek at the first fight, delighting Final Fantasy 3 fans with an appearance by Cloud of Darkness.

Another familiar face will join Futures Rewritten with Final Fantasy 7's iconic Emerald Weapon. We've already fought against a modern take on Ruby Weapon and Final Fantasy 14 continues to excite enthusiasts for one of the series' most iconic installments with reimaginings of old foes.

Older fights from previous expansions have also been given new life in Shadowbringers with the introduction of Unreal Trials. Previously, players faced off with the daunting Shiva trial scaled up for a new level of difficulty, but 5.4 will see the ice primal's days come to a close as Square Enix introduces a return to one of 2.0's hardest trials, Titan.

Updates to gathering and crafting will be plentiful. New recipes for handy players will give them a new source of income, while the competitive warriors of light can return for another chapter of Ishgard Restoration. Of course, a patch is rarely complete without tweaks to battle classes. Monk will see a complete rework the community has eagerly been waiting for and other jobs will likely receive smaller tweaks.

Triple Triad changes, a new dungeon mode, and additions to treasure hunting are just a few more of some of the updates in a patch that will surely keep even the hardcore players busy for months. 5.4 is less than two weeks away, so time is running out to complete your pre-patch preparations before the 24-hour maintenance begins.
