The Scions turn to the reclusive mage of the Grand Cosmos, a curious being that wishes only to be alone. You'll need to brave the halls of the mage's grand palace if you want to learn how to save your allies. Let's take a look at each boss you'll face in the Grand Cosmos, and how to beat them.

How To Unlock The Grand Cosmos

The Grand Cosmos is unlocked through the following quest.

  • Accept the Main Scenario Quest 'A Grand Adventure'
    • NPC Location: Crystal Exarch - The Ocular, The Crystarium (X:6.1, Y:6.0)

Dungeon Walkthrough

As a main story dungeon, the Grand Cosmos can be completed with Trusts. Entering the dungeon with these NPCs will be slower than human players, but will give you the opportunity to learn the dungeon at your own speed. We recommend using Trusts for your first run through the Grand Cosmos.

Seeker of Solitude

seeker of solitude, first boss of the grand cosmos dungeon

The first boss of the Grand Cosmos is the Seeker of Solitude, who will use the following attacks and mechanics.

  • Shadowbolt: Deals high damage to the Tank. Use defensive cooldowns as necessary.
  • Immortal Anathema: Deals damage to all party members. Use AoE healing when needed.
  • Tribulation: The boss will drop puddles of dirt around the arena before summoning five brooms at the edges of either side of the arena. After a moment, the brooms will sweep down the arena in a straight line, slowly moving towards the puddles. When a broom reaches a puddle, it will begin to clean it, dealing damage in the area. The brooms will additionally deal damage and knock back any player they cross paths with.
    • Avoid this attack by weaving through the brooms as they move, and stay clear of the dirt puddles.

  • Dark Shock: Creates an AoE circle beneath a random player. This attack will occur during Tribulation, so be sure to dodge it as you avoid the brooms.
  • Dark Pulse: Targets a random player with a stack marker. Group up on the affected player to spread out the damage of this attack.
  • Dark Well: Occurring immediately after Dark Pulse, the boss will target all players with AoE markers that will shortly deal damage in a circle AoE. Spread out after stacking up to avoid overlapping these AoEs.

The Seeker of Solitude will repeat these attacks until it is defeated. Dodging the brooms can take some getting used to, so be sure to focus on this mechanics when it occurs. Additionally, as the fight progresses, the Seeker of Solitude will overlap some of these abilities, like using Dark Well during Tribulation, further increasing the amount of things you need to dodge. Watch carefully and move accordingly.

Leannan Sith

leanna sith, second boss of the grand cosmos

The second boss of this dungeon is Leannan Sith. Get ready to do some gardening and cut this boss down to size. Listed below are each of Leannan Sith's attacks and mechanics.

  • Storm of Color: Deals high damage to the Tank. Use defensive cooldowns to mitigate.
  • Ode to Lost Love: Deals moderate damage to all party members. Recover with AoE heals.
  • Direct Seeding: Leannan Sith will move to the center of the arena and cause square sections of the arena to glow green. Then, the boss will spawn Seeds around the arena. Seeds that are in the glowing green areas will eventually sprout, causing an add to be summoned. Seeds in the infertile brown tiles will not sprout

  • Gardener's Hymn: The boss will use this attack immediately after Direct Seeding. Gardener's Hymn will cause any Seeds in growing green tiles to sprout into Lover's Ring adds that will begin to attack the party. Eventually, the Lover's Rings will cast Toxic Sprout, causing them to explode, dealing high damage in the area. Seeds that are not in green tiles will not sprout.
    • You can avoid summoning adds by picking up and moving the Seeds to the brown tiles so they won't grow. If any Lover's Rings are summoned, be sure to destroy them quickly before they explode.
    • Ireful Wind: Subsequent uses of Direct Seeding and Gardener's Hymn will also be accompanied by Ireful Wind. This attack will cause wind to blow after Direct Seeding, which will move the Seeds one tile in the direction the wind is blowing. Keep this in mind while you move the Seeds to avoid summoning adds.
  • Ode to Far Winds: Leannan Sith will summon circle AoEs around the arena and target all players with an AoE marker. Find the safe zones between the ground AoEs while also spreading out to avoid taking unnecessary damage from other players' AoE markers.
  • Ode to Fallen Petals: The boss will create an AoE that covers the entire arena except for a small circle around the boss. Move towards Leannan Sith to avoid this attack.

Leannan Sith will repeat these attacks until she is defeated. The main mechanic to watch out for is the Direct Seeding, Gardener's Hymn and Ireful Wind combo. Move the Seeds to the correct tiles as soon as possible, and you can avoid the hard-hitting Lover's Ring adds.

Lugus

lugus, final boss of the grand cosmos

The final boss of the Grand Cosmos is Lugus. Around the arena of this boss fight are several flammable objects. Avoid getting near these until later in the fight, where they will be used to avoid a mechanic. Listed below are each of Lugus's attacks.

  • Scorching Left/Right: Deals high damage to the left or right side of the boss, respectively. Watch which side the boss intends to attack and move to the opposite to avoid.
  • Otherworldly Heat: Lugus will target all players with a red AoE marker that will create a cross shape on the ground underneath each player. Then, the cross will explode in a larger AoE, dealing damage and lighting any nearby objects on fire. Spread out to avoid overlapping these AoEs, and stay away from the flammable furniture to avoid destroying it.
  • Captive Bolt: Deals high damage to the Tank. Use defensive abilities as necessary.

  • Mortal Flame: The boss will inflict each player with blue fire that will kill you after a few seconds. This fire needs to be transferred to one of the flammable objects to avoid certain death. If all objects have already been destroyed by other attacks, you will die.
    • Note that two players can not use the same furniture to dispel Mortal Flame. Each player must transfer the blue fire to a different object, meaning you will need at least four objects available for all players to avoid this attack.
  • Fire's Domain: Lugus will place a number of swords above each players' head. Then, the boss will target each player with Fire's Ire in order, according to how many swords they have. For example, the player with one sword above their head will be targeted first, and so on.
    • Fire's Ire: Lugus will tether to the player, before rushing towards them and attacking in a large cone AoE. Move away from the boss until the tether turns purple to minimize damage, and spread out from other players to avoid hitting them with the frontal cone AoE. Additionally, this attack will ignite flammable objects, so be mindful where you are standing.
  • Culling Blade: Deals damage to all party members and drops a number of flammable chandeliers on the arena. These can be used to avoid Mortal Flame, so be sure not to ignite it with other attacks.

Lugus will repeat these mechanics until he is defeated. Be careful when you are targeted with attacks that can light furniture on fire, and move quickly to dispel Mortal Flame. After destroying Lugus, the Grand Cosmos will be complete.
