Final Fantasy 14 is hosting a free giveaway right now. Anyone who owns the Starter Edition of FF14 can now download the Stormblood expansion absolutely free between now and May 8. It's hard to argue with free, but it's ignited a fierce debate among fans on which expansion was the worst.

Much of that debate centers around whether Stormblood was the worst of the FF14 expansions. One particular tweet accused it of being just that, although you can find plenty of examples of Stormblood being ranked the worst DLC for FF14. And there are indeed plenty of tweets confirming Stormblood to be the worst, but there are also plenty of tweets defending what Stormblood brought to the table.

"From a story perspective yes," admitted Twitter user PillowyZeal, "[but] content-wise? Oh hell no it was by far the best expansion. Eureka, the Omega raids were fire, two great ultimates, almost all Ex fights were really good, Heaven on High and MH trial collab."

"To me, Stormblood was by far the best expansion," agreed Heather Sommers. "Stormblood had the best trials, environments, and dungeons to me."

A thread started soon after Square Enix announced it was giving away Stormblood detailed what fans loved about the maligned expansion. "Going to the Far East, especially Azim Steppe, and how amped the mechanics were getting in dungeons and trials," commented user Adrian Bunboy. "I really enjoyed [Stormblood] until the ending and the following patches, but it wasn't enough to make me dislike the expansion as a whole."

Square Enix isn't just giving away Stormblood. For those who haven't played Final Fantasy 14 in at least 30 days, Square Enix is also hosting a free login event where you can take a look around and see what's going on in the world of Eorzea without needing to pay a cent. You can login for free and download the Stormblood expansion for keeps until May 8.
