Whether you're a new or veteran player, there's always something to do in Final Fantasy 14. With the game's next expansion releasing soon, there's even more content on the horizon. However, the weeks just before an expansion is the perfect time to catch up and revisit any old fights and content you may have missed.
If you've missed an Alliance Raid or haven't gotten around to leveling up your retainers, now is the perfect time to do that. When Endwalker launches, all the new, shiny content will be too enticing to just leave there while you are stuck catching up on raids. Let's take a look at everything you can do to prepare before Endwalker comes out.
Catch Up On The Main Scenario Quests
The Main Scenario is the most important thing to do in Final Fantasy 14. Completing the MSQ will lead you to unlock most of the game's content, so you should always be sure to complete the newest Main Scenario Quests as they come out. To be fully caught up for Endwalker, make sure you've completed the MSQ 'Death Unto Dawn', released in patch 5.5. Do this and you'll be ready to accept the first quest of Endwalker as soon as it's available.
Additionally, completing all four Role Quests will unlock the epilogue questline 'Shadow Walk with Me'. While not essential to understanding the story of the game, this questline provides some interesting background on a few mysterious characters. To unlock this quest, you'll need to complete the following four Role Quests.
- The Tank Role Quest 'To Have Loved and Lost'
- The Healer Role Quest 'The Soul of Temperance'
- The Physical DPS Role Quest 'Courage Born of Fear'
- The Magical DPS Role Quest 'A Tearful Reunion'
Complete Previous 8-Player Raids
Although not direct requirements for playing the Main Scenario Quests, the 8-player raids tell stories that are almost necessary to understanding Final Fantasy 14's overarching narrative. Before Endwalker launches, be sure to complete the Coils of Bahamut, Alexander, and Omega raids to have the best understanding of the new expansion's story. Even Naoki Yoshida, the game's director, recommends clearing these raids to get a deeper insight into the story's characters.
The quest to start each 8-player raid is listed below.
- The Binding Coil of Bahamut
- Complete the quest 'Primal Awakening'
- NPC Location: Urianger - The Waking Sands (x:6.0, y:4.9)
- Alexander
- Complete the quest 'Disarmed'
- NPC Location: Slowfix - Idyllshire (x:7.5, y:6.5)
- Omega
- Complete the quest 'The Hunt for Omega'
- NPC Location: Wedge - Rhalgr's Reach (x:12.6, y:12.4)
- Eden
- Complete the quest 'In the Middle of Nowhere'
- NPC Location: Anxious Crystarium Guard - The Crystarium (x:9.7, y:12.3)
Complete Previous Alliance Raids
With the Crystal Tower now a requirement for continuing the MSQ, it might be important to complete the past expansion's Alliance Raids as well. The Shadow of Mhach, Return to Ivalice, and YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse Alliance Raids all have stories that tie into the game's lore or directly to the main story.
If you want to be as prepared as possible for Endwalker, consider playing through any Alliance Raids you may have forgotten about. Check out our guide on how to unlock each Alliance Raid for a full list of each Raids' questlines and where to start them.
Level Up Your Retainers
Retainers are a great way to make some extra gil, especially at the start of an expansion when items' prices are still fluctuating. Leveling up and gearing your retainers will ensure you can start sending them out to gather all the new materials once the expansion launches, giving you an edge up in the market. With the un-capping of teleport costs in Endwalker, you'll want all the gil you can get.
Get Gear For Sage And Reaper
If you plan on playing either of the new Endwalker Jobs when the expansion comes out, you'll want to prepare in advance with some strong equipment. Sage will use healer's gear, and Reaper uses Maiming Gear, which is the same as Dragoon. The new Jobs will start at level 70, so buy gear using your Tomestones of Poetics in Rhalgr's Reach to have the best start as a Sage or Reaper.
You'll want to get the Augmented Scaevan Gear from Enna, which is iLvl. 400. With this armor, you won't have to worry about upgrading your gear for a while as a Sage or Reaper.
Clear The Bozjan Southern Front
When Endwalker launches, most of the player-base will be rushing to Sharlayan and all the new regions, leaving past content deserted for a while. If you're close to finishing your Resistance Weapon, or even if you haven't started one yet, now is the perfect time to grind out the rest of those materials. The Bozjan Southern Front will probably be much less occupied when Endwalker comes out, so it's a good idea to do that content with other players while it's still fresh.
The Bozjan Resistance storyline may also play a part in Endwalker's story, so it's definitely worthwhile to clear just the story quests before the expansion launches.
Clean Out Your Inventory
There's nothing like starting a new journey with a clean inventory. Before Endwalker launches, try to get rid of all those materials and glamour items you've probably been stockpiling all through Shadowbringers. Materials can be stored in a retainer's inventory or sold on the Market Board, and glamour items can be stored in the Glamour Dresser or the Armoire.
You'll be picking up tons of new items, and you'll definitely want a place to put them all, especially if you plan on leveling your crafting Jobs.
