It’s an innate human emotion to want something we don’t have. It’s why we build kingdoms, why we went to the Moon, and apparently, why we play Final Fantasy 14. There are some top-tier coveted rewards for players to earn in the MMO, and I’ll often see a player run past with a mount or minion that makes me do a double-take. They’ll be wearing some shiny, fancy gear, and I can’t help but examine them to find out what it’s called. We’ve all been there, right?

The YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse storyline added a plethora of goodies I wanted. Even if you aren’t necessarily a Nier fan, you can’t help but appreciate the slick gear you get from these raids. Not to mention the many Nier-themed minions, Triple Triad cards, and Orchestrion Rolls up for grabs are particularly tempting too. The problem is — as I’ve mentioned many times before — I absolutely suck at raids. I’m just terrible at them. Even if I tried to do my homework and learn all the mechanics, I have the worst reaction times ever and end up dying an embarrassing amount of times.

These raids aren’t the easiest or quickest, so when you pair with randoms to play through them, not only are the queue times hefty, but some Warriors of Light get a little impatient with those of us who aren’t as skilled. As a result, despite slogging through the first two raids, I put off completing The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach.

That’s where the latest Moogle Treasure Trove comes in. All three Nier raids are duties you can earn Tomestones of Mendacity for completing during this latest event. This has led to mixed reception from players as the raids are a fairly inefficient way to farm tomes, given their duration and difficulty. They’re too much of a chore for many players, but for those of us who still need to complete the raids, we can finally wrap up this storyline without feeling guilty about blundering our way through it.

While the raids are just as hard as they always are, featuring in the latest Moogle event has more players flocking to complete them. Queue times are much lower, and more importantly, people are more understanding to those who are barely scraping through, like myself. Do the Ivalice fans feel the same way when the duties pop up in these events?

I started with some dignity and survived the first boss without biting the dust once, but over the rest of the raid, I died a whopping ten times. Ouch. I can only apologise to the poor healer who had to keep raising me. While I wasn’t lucky enough to win the minions, I left with some Stuffed Android Units and the knowledge that I could finally blitz the rest of this storyline and purchase the Pod mount from the Gold Saucer.

While we’re being given this free pass to complete this content without fear of consequence, I plan to run the raids a few more times to mop up the minions I want. They say practice makes perfect, so maybe I won’t suck as much at the end, either. I’ll still have to farm out tomes with some more suitable content before the event finishes, but in the meantime, I plan to make the most of it.
