Fans of the remake should still feel right at home in the original game’s gaming world with many elements still feeling familiar like the Limit Breaks.

The Limit Breaks in Final Fantasy VII are special abilities assigned to each character in the game that needs to be unlocked under certain conditions as the game progresses. The Limit gauge fills and represents a character’s anger level as they are getting attacked enemies on the battlefield. Being the main protagonist, Cloud has some of the best Limit Breaks in the game, let’s rank his abilities from the worst to the best.

7 Braver

Braver is the starting Limit Break in the game so there’s no work required to obtain it. When activated, Cloud performs a leaping slash attack that is capable of splitting some enemies in two with exception to the bosses.

The Braver does 3.0x the normal damage of Cloud current strength stats and his equipped weapon. This means as Cloud grows stronger the more effective Braver becomes and will be a go-to Limit attack for quite some time.

6 Cross-Slash

The Cross-Slash is a level 1 Limit Break and is the second obtainable in the game. Players will automatically receive this Limit Break after using Braver eight times in a battle. The Cross-Slash inflicts 3.25x the damage that Cloud equipped can. It is also dependant on Cloud’s strength stats at the time of its use.

It’s the best level 1 Limit Break in the game and has the ability to cause some enemies Paralysis if they are vulnerable to it.

5 Meteorain

The Meteorain Limit Break is a level 3 attack that can be obtained after defeating 200 enemies when Cloud has achieved the level 2 Limit Break Blade Beam. When activated, Cloud leaps upward in the air and attacks his enemies with six meteorites.

Despite being a level 3 Limit Break, the Meteorain attack ranks lower than other attacks on this list because it attacks Cloud’s enemies at random and only does 1.625x the damage of his normal attacks compared to more powerful attacks like the Climhazzard.

4 Blade Beam

The Blade Beam automatically becomes available for Cloud after he has defeated 120 enemies in battle. It’s an attack that’s great for crowd control as the attack hits one enemy with a blade beam that splits into waves and attacks the remaining enemies on the battlefield with weaker attack damage.

The first hit from the Blade Beam does 3.5x the damage of Cloud’s strength and weapon stats and the split waves causing 1x the damage. It’s one of the most useful Limit Breaks when there are multiple enemies on the field but doesn’t compare to Cloud’s next Limit Break.

3 Finishing Touch

The Finishing Touch is the final level 3 Limit Break and is obtained by using the Meteorain Limit six times in a battle. When activated Cloud attacks all of his enemies with a tornado conjured up by a swing of his sword.

The Finishing Touch Limit Break also has the ability to cast the Instant Death spell on enemies that are vulnerable to it. As a result, most bosses will be immune to the attack but it still casts 3.124x Cloud’s normal attack power.

2 Climhazzard

The Climhazzard Limit Break can be obtained automatically after using the Blade Beam a total of seven times in a battle. While it doesn’t have the ability to attack multiple enemies on the battlefield it is a more powerful attack against a single enemy.

Using the Climhazzard, Cloud impales an enemy and slices upwards into the air with the leaping attack causing further damage. It hits Cloud’s targets with 4.375x his normal damage and will remain an excellent Limit Break until the end.

1 Omnislash

The Omnislah is Cloud’s ultimate Limit Break and is his most powerful and effective attack in the game. It can only be obtained once Cloud has learned all of his other Limit Breaks in the game and read from a manual that needs to be won at the Battle Square in the Golden Saucer. When the player has acquired the Tiny Bronco it can be purchased for 51,200 battle points or 32,000 battle points after the player has possession of the Highwind.

Cloud’s Omnislash will hit random enemies 15 times dealing 0.75x the normal each individual attack with the addition of a critical attack. It’s capable of hitting massive attack damage against individuals and is great at clearing crowds. Whether it is equipped or not, players will get to use the Omnislash in the game’s final cutscene.
