Games nowadays are very sparse in terms of valuable content. Mundane fetch quests and collect-a-thons form the brunt of the extra things that can be completed in the game, making it more of a chore than what it should ideally be — fun! It must be said that JRPGs, in particular, are famous (notorious even) for featuring a wealth of content that players can choose to tackle at their behest.

Hardly. We've updated this list to include a few more things you can do after you've finished this iconic, beloved RPG classic.

15 Play Final Fantasy VII Remake

We've waited this long for Square to release the long-anticipated remake of Final Fantasy VII, and the first chapter has already been out for a few months at the time of writing. Time to saddle up and experience a much different take on the story we all know and love.

Square is busy working on the installment of the multi-release title, so don't rush through your first playthrough. Rather, take your time, soak up the dazzling re-imaged graphics, cutscenes, and character models, all running beautifully on Unreal Engine 4.

14 Play Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VII was a paradigm shift in the series, as it was the first installment to leapfrog from the 16-Bit to the 32-Bit era. For that reason, it pays to take a step back in time and play its predecessor, Final Fantasy VI, just to note the differences.

In some ways, Final Fantasy VI is slightly better than VII, and vice versa. The story is amazing, the characters are enchanting, and the adventure is timeless. It's full of emotion, excitement, and riveting plot twists. Super deformed JRPG sprites do nothing to detract from any of it.

13 Watch Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

So, you've just thrashed Sephiroth and watched him implode in on himself like a dying star. You might be thinking the story is over and done with, it turns out Cloud and the gang still have a ways to go before the legacy of Jenova is settled.

The anime feature film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children picks up shortly after the events of the game, and focuses on three clones of Sephiroth who are out to wreak havoc on the world, once more. It's a work of love for Final Fantasy VII fans, and one that shouldn't be missed.

12 Get A Gold Chocobo

There are several ways to get a gold Chocobo in Final Fantasy VII, but your method will dictate how great its stats are. For that reason, it's best to stick to the number one method - breeding a black Chocobo with a (wonderful) yellow Chocobo using a Zeio Nut, which can be found on goblins.

The main advantage of the gold Chocobo is its ability to race across every terrain type, allowing you to reach Round Island to acquire the Knights Of The Round materia. They are also excellent racing Chocobos as well, since course hazards have no effect on them.

11 Mod The Game

This applies to the PC version of Final Fantasy VII, which you can purchase on Steam. Many fans weren't entirely satisfied with the PC port, so they decided to take matters into their own hands by developing a series of mods for the game.

Head on over to the Qhimm forums and take a look at the at some of the absolutely spectacular projects being worked on, which offer everything from HD character sprites and backgrounds to Reshade presets! If you're thinking of firing up FF7 on PC for the first time, you may want to deck out your game with these mods beforehand!

10 Complete Your Enemy Skill Materia

The Enemy Skill materia is one of the useful pieces of materia around, allowing for any character to essentially become a Blue Mage. With a total of 4 materia like this and 24 Enemy Skills to obtain in total to obtain, completing this entire set can prove to be quite an endeavor.

Some Enemy Skills are so hard to obtain that you have to control them to cast said skill at the party. Suffice to say, if you're planning to accomplish this task then you're definitely in it for the long haul.

9 Obtain Everyone's Ultimate Weapons

A constant trope that has become the norm across JRPGs is the idea of every character having their very own ultimate weapons, which will augment their power considerably.

Cloud's best weapon is perhaps the most memorable of the lot that you can choose to attain since you have to face a rather imposing boss who drops Cloud's Ultima Sword.

8 Beat Ultimate Weapon

Isn't it fitting that the creature from which Cloud receives his Ultima Sword is ironically named Ultimate Weapon? Released from the North Crater as a part of an elaborate defense mechanism, it must be said that the battle against him is quite memorable.

Obtaining Cloud's strongest weapon is the perfect icing on the cake after defeating this imposing boss.

7 Obtain Everyone's Final Limit Breaks

Of course, simply obtaining one's best weapon isn't the best way to optimize your party. After all, there are several other factors that need to be taken into account as well, with perhaps the most important of the lot being each character's Level 4 Limit Break.

Again, Cloud's final Limit Break is perhaps the most entertaining to obtain out of the lot, since you have to accomplish a particular thing before being able to unlock the same.

6 Fight At The Battle Square

The Battle Square in the Gold Saucer is perhaps the best minigame that you can play, allowing you to obtain several important items, including — but not limited to — Cloud's Omnislash.

From a valuable Hero Drink to a W-Summon materia, it must be said that the Battle Square is a great place to bolster your party... provided you're willing to sink in the required time.

5 Breed And Race Chocobos

While it might seem somewhat taxing, trust us when we say that breeding and racing Chocobos is one of the best things you can do near the end of Final Fantasy VII.

After all, the only way you can get the legendary Knights Of The Round materia is by accessing the island it's on with a Gold Chocobo.

4 Explore The Ancient Forest

Defeating Ultimate Weapon unlocks your entry into this side area, featuring a ton of useful items, materia, and a valuable summon that will definitely aid your party in their final romp through the Northern Cave.

A Slash-All materia, a Typhoon Summon materia, and a Minerva Band are just a few of the many goodies in store for you if you make the wise decision of exploring this area.

3 Beat Ruby Weapon

There are two infamous superbosses in Final Fantasy VII that have stood the test of time as some of the most imposing challenges anybody can take on in video games. The first superboss on this list is Ruby Weapon, who can absolutely decimate your party in a moment's notice if you fail to stay vigilant.

The fact that you're constantly being assaulted from both sides makes this fight tough enough as is, and we're not even mentioning the fact that Ruby Weapon will straight up yeet two party members, making it mandatory for you to go into this fight with two KOed characters if you ever wish to stand a chance.

2 Beat Emerald Weapon

While Ruby Weapon might be a hard challenge in every sense of the word, the fact of the matter is that Emerald Weapon is even more imposing, for two major reasons. The first one is that you only have 20 minutes to beat this boss. While this time limit might be negated with the Underwater materia, doing so poses another issue.

Basically, Emerald Weapon has an incredibly powerful attack called the Aire Tam Storm. The damage of this attack scales on the basis of the character's equipped, meaning that a wrong setup can lead to an instant game over.

Players who wish to fell this beast need to strategize accordingly, lest they face a premature defeat at the hands of the hardest enemy in Final Fantasy VII.

1 Complete The Kalm Traveler's Sidequests

The person who gives you the Underwater materia is an unnamed character unofficially labeled "The Kalm Traveler." Encountering this character after defeating both Ruby and Emerald Weapon yields some impressive prizes.

The Desert Rose that one gets from Ruby Weapon can be traded in for a Gold Chocobo. Meanwhile, the Earth Harp — obtained from Emerald Weapon — can be used to get the Master Summon, Master Magic, and Master Command material.
