Updated on March 15, 2024, by Mohamed El Ouardighi: With the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we figured it's a good time to revisit our Final Fantasy 7 Remake articles. After all, many players might want to revisit or experience the remake before delving into the new installment. That's precisely what we've done with this article, refreshing its formatting and style for your reading pleasure.

9 Chocobo Chick

First up is the Chocobo Chick. Chocobos have been a part of the series since Final Fantasy II, and in Remake, you can summon a cute Chocobo Chick to aid you in battle. However, this Summon is exclusive to those who pre-ordered the game before its release.

The Chocobo Chick is the least powerful of the Summons available. It casts random spells, but compared to the spells your party can use, its damage output is minimal. While its Ultimate Attack deals decent damage, overall, it might not be the best choice for your team.

8 Cactuar

Next up is another familiar creature from the Final Fantasy series, the Cactuar. This creature can be obtained as a Summon Materia only if you've purchased the Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe, or the 1st Class Edition of the game.

The best way to describe the Cactuar Summon is "okay." While its damage output isn't the highest, its most notable attribute is its ability to stagger enemies quickly, which proves invaluable during boss fights.

7 Fat Chocobo

The Fat Chocobo is the first entry on this list that isn't a DLC Summon, and is instead a Summon you receive by defeating it in Chadley's VR Battles, which unlock after turning in 5 Battle Intel challenges. The VR Battle with the Fat Chocobo doesn't unlock until you talk to Chadley during Chapter 9 in Wall Market.

The original Final Fantasy 7 summon list features 16 total that you can get. But not all of them are created equal.

The Fat Chocobo does do some pretty decent damage against enemies, but it's biggest problem is the fact that it's very slow compared to the other Summons available.

6 Carbuncle

Don't be fooled by their cute looks; Chocobo & Moogle is a fantastic Summon to have. It's particularly effective against enemies vulnerable to wind damage and boasts a useful attack called Chocobo Kick, which deals significant stagger damage.

You can acquire the Materia for this Summon in Chapter 6. Tifa spots the Materia behind a spinning fan, but you can't grab it immediately. First, you need to deactivate the three sun lamps to access the lift that takes you to the ventilation shafts.

5 Chocobo & Moogle

Don't let their harmless appearance fool you, Chocobo & Moogle is a great Summon to have. It's great to use against enemies weak to wind damage and it also has a useful attack called Chocobo Kick, which inflicts great stagger damage.

You can find the Materia for this Summon during Chapter 6. Tifa points out the Materia behind a spinning fan but you can't go grab it right away. You have to first shut off the 3 sun lamps to access the lift that takes you to the ventilation shafts.

4 Shiva

Shiva is another Summon you obtain by defeating her in Chadley's VR Battle, though this battle isn't accessible until Chapter 8. You can initiate the battle by speaking to Chadley in the Sector 5 Slums, right by the Materia shop.

Shiva proves to be incredibly potent against enemies vulnerable to ice attacks. Even against foes without an ice weakness, Shiva's assaults pack a punch. Moreover, her Ultimate Attack, Diamond Dust, deals a massive amount of damage and can be invaluable in dire situations.

3 Leviathan

Another Summon you obtain from Chadley's VR Battles is Leviathan, a colossal entity capable of unleashing devastatingly powerful attacks. Accessible only in Chapter 14, you can initiate the VR Battle against this imposing creature by speaking to Chadley at any of his recent locations.

There are plenty of fun and curious plot holes in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4. They don't make any sense, so have a laugh!

Leviathan's regular attacks deal significant damage, but its true power lies in its Ultimate Attack. Leviathan unleashes its signature Tidal Wave attack, engulfing enemies in its immense current, making it a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

2 Ifrit

One of the best Summons in Final Fantasy VII Remake is also the first one you get, and it's the simplest to acquire. Jessie gives you Ifrit's Summon Materia at the start of Chapter 4, and it remains a valuable asset for a significant part of the game.

Ifrit, a fiery powerhouse of muscles and fury, is an excellent choice to unleash on enemies due to its aggressive attacks. Its Ultimate Attack unleashes a powerful firestorm that engulfs foes, making it a formidable ally in battle.

1 Bahamut

Finally, the best Summon in the game is also the most challenging to obtain. To unlock access to the VR Battle, you must complete all 20 of Chadley's Battle Intel Reports, which is quite a lengthy process. Afterward, you'll face Bahamut in battle, and defeating it won't be a walk in the park.

However, once you've accomplished these feats, you'll gain the ability to summon Bahamut. This Summon is an unstoppable force, capable of dealing immense damage to enemies, particularly with its devastating Ultimate Attack, Megaflare.
