With Square Enix set to drop Final Fantasy VII Remake on April 10, 2020, the future is bright for Cloud Strife and the rest of the iconic JRPG's cast. Since debuting in 1997, Final Fantasy VII has never left the public consciousness, a testament to the game's brilliance and Square's steady stream of post-launch releases set within the same universe.

In a game packed with recognizable personalities, few faces can match the popularity of Tifa Lockhart. Along with being one of Final Fantasy VII's playable characters, Tifa went on to appear in many of the JRPG's spin-offs, including Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. Furthermore, the character has forever been a staple of gaming conventions, as many fans have paid tribute to the legendary resistance fighter by donning her various getups.

Updated June 12th, 2020 by Meg Pelliccio: Final Fantasy 7 Remake is now out, and fans new and old have been enjoying their trip to Midgar. The game offers a brilliant mixture of a blast from the past nostalgia coupled with the benefits of modern technology.

Of course, with the game getting a new look with enhanced, more realistic graphics, fans can appreciate the environments and characters all the more. Gone is the blocky Tifa Lockhart of the original - now, one of our favorite Final Fantasy ladies has returned to grace our screens in all her enhanced beauty. Naturally, when it comes to fan-favorite characters, the cosplays follow.

15 One for the Road

Cosplay by Rilinnz.

Cosplayer Rilinnz has donned Tifa's outfit from the recent Final Fantasy 7 Remake and is reminding us of the monk's other skill - bartending. Who wouldn't want to stop and have a cold drink with Tifa in Seventh Heaven?

Tifa Lockhart isn't the only Final Fantasy VII girl that Rilinnz steps into the shoes of, another of her cosplay characters is Aerith and she does the flower girl just as much justice with her on-point cosplaying skills.

14 PlayStation Perfect

Cosplay by MisaChiang.

This look goes old-school and takes inspiration from Tifa Lockhart's original outfit from the PlayStation 1 version of Final Fantasy 7. The beautiful clean presentation of this character is in stark contrast to the grimy background, reminding us of the dark, imperfect setting of the game - Midgar.

Misa Chiang also cosplays as a host of other characters, ranging from anime characters to other gaming characters, such as the fan-favorite 2B from Nier Automata.

13 Gearing Up

Cosplay by YuzuPyon.

This cosplayer has gone all-in on her look, taking the new Remake Tifa style and perfecting her outfit with her own custom-made foam accessories and base outfit, as well as including the smaller details such as Tifa's drop earrings, which are sometimes overlooked.

YuzuPyon cosplays as a few various characters, including Yennefer from The Witcher series, but without a doubt her Tifa Lockhart cosplay is phenomenal. This picture is perfect at showing our favorite monk character gearing up for battle.

12 Looking For A Fight

Cosplay by juri_cnd.

This is another take on the classic Tifa Lockhart look by cosplayer Juri, showing our best girl looking a bit steamed as if she's angrily looking for some baddies to beat up. The great thing about this cosplay is that her red gloves appear really worn, a testament to the number of smackdowns she's delivered to other people.

Juri cosplays as several fan-favorite Final Fantasy females and all of them are done really well. Her cosplays include Yuna from Final Fantasy X, Lunafreya from Final Fantasy XV, Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII, and many others.

11 Ready For a Night on the Town

Cosplay by Manzinat0r.

Manzinat0r changes things up from the norm by opting to cosplay as Wall Market Tifa, showcasing her gorgeous dress instead of her usual battle gear. This image was part of a photoshoot organized by Adella Cosplay and shot by Bigwhitebazooka Photography.

This dress is based on the original game, though she still has a similar one in Remake, there are some far more interesting dress options for players to obtain for Tifa. Regardless, this look is absolutely perfect.

10 Even Resistance Fighters Need To Relax

Cosplay by daniellevedo.

Danielle Vedovelli is a prolific cosplayer who has expertly brought to life the likes of Bayonetta, X-23, and Chun-Li. While all those costumes are fantastic, the cosplayer's crowning achievement might very well be her take on Final Fantasy VII's reserved but hard-hitting icon.

On the surface, Tifa's design might not seem the most complicated to recreate, especially compared to the likes of Aerith and Sephiroth; however, Vedovelli goes the extra mile by absolutely nailing the character's hairstyle and even eye color. Tifa is more than just a tank top and suspenders.

9 Breaking Limits

Cosplay by KiraHokuten.

Even though Tifa does, at times, radiate an air of confidence that makes her seem untouchable, the AVALANCHE member is the most withdrawn member of Final Fantasy VII's core group. Tifa keeps the others at a distance, including her childhood friend and eventual romantic partner, Cloud.

More than anything else, Tifa is defined by action. She convinces Cloud to throw his sword in with AVALANCHE and to go up against Shinra. She is the one that helps Cloud remember who he is by entering his subconscious. Lastly, Tifa is an expert martial artist who lets her punches and kicks do the talking. KiraHokuten captures Tifa at her most honest.

8 The Remake Is Looking Pretty Realistic

Cosplay by trinity.limit.

At long last, the Final Fantasy VII remake will soon become a reality. It is hard to believe that nearly five years have passed since Square Enix originally revealed the project during 2015's E3 conference, an announcement the publisher should have probably waited a bit longer to make.

While the wait might have felt endless, the passage of time has not diminished the excitement surrounding the game. Trinity.limit's Tifa would not look out of place running the 7th Heaven bar and restaurant in Midgar.

7 A Cosplay That Packs Quite A Punch

Cosplay by KICKAcosplay.

Compared to Barret's gun-arms and Cloud's Buster Sword, Tifa's weapon of choice is relatively understated. Reflecting her background in martial arts, Tifa turns her own body into a powerful force of nature, although she does equip gloves to supplement her attacks with an extra dose of pain.

KICKAcosplay's Tifa is readying her knuckles to deliver a world of hurt, something the character has to do a lot during Final Fantasy VII's campaign. The outfit is impeccable.

6 *Limbering Up

Cosplay by MeggiiCosplay.

MeggiiCosplay takes on the guise of more than one character, but Tifa Lockhart appears to be a clear favorite of hers and her fans. She has taken inspiration from the newer look of Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and has perfected the look with the red eyes that Tifa is known for. In particular, her arm guard looks superb.

This action-style pose is great at portraying the energetic personality of Tifa, as well as showing that's she's always up for a fight. You wouldn't want to go toe to toe with this girl.

5 The Best Of Both Worlds

Cosplay by Eyes-0n-Me.

Tifa's most celebrated look is undoubtedly her Final Fantasy VII outfit, which will only receive minor tweaks in the upcoming remake. Originally published in 2015, Eyes-on-Me's cosplay is said to have been inspired by the remake, but details on Tifa's new design were obviously scarce at the time.

With the bright red gloves, no stockings, and an elbow pad instead of a vambrace, this stunning cosplay serves as a fascinating combination of 1997 and remake Tifa.

4 Crisis Core Tifa

Cosplay by Narga-Lifestream.

A prequel released on the PlayStation Portable, Crisis Core does a serviceable job of expanding on Zack Fair's history, a character who had a rather minor role in the original game. In Crisis Core's storyline, a 15-year-old Tifa appears as an Mt. Nibel tour guide assigned to Zack, Cloud, and Sephiroth, who leads them on an expedition that eventually ends with Sephiroth going insane and killing Tifa's father.

Perhaps to reflect her more playful and innocent nature as a teenager, Tifa wears a cowgirl outfit in Crisis Core. Narga-Lifestream's cosplay shines a light on a part of Tifa's life that might not be that universally known.

3 Battle Ready

Cosplay by kisumecosplay.

As the Final Fantasy VII remake approaches ever closer, it is only natural that cosplayers begin to prioritize the cast's new designs over their original ones. For the most part, the changes are negligible, but they should be noticeable to any die-hard fans.

Uploaded towards the end of 2019, Kisumecosplay's Tifa is a near-perfect recreation of the character's new design, as determined by the small snippets Square Enix has released as precursors to the remake's launch. The biggest deviation is Tifa's gloves, with the new equipment coming across as less bulky than the original.

2 Ready For Action

Cosplay by itsthekitsunekid.

While hardly the only one associated with the character, no other pose succeeds in reflecting Tifa's personality as well as itsthekitsunekid's action-ready stance. As a Monk class, Tifa is all about raw physical strength and close-quarters combat. This stance is a statement of intent, one that defines a powerful and committed character.

The cosplay is so good, one can almost picture the incoming Somersault.

1 A Knockout

Cosplay by LadyDaniela89.

What better way to honor one of gaming's most beloved characters than by paying tribute to Tifa's combat skills? LadyDaniela89's portfolio is packed with brilliant cosplay creations, and she seems to have a particular affinity for Final Fantasy.

Along with her stunning version of Tifa, the cosplayer has proven to be a great match for Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoa, Final Fantasy VI's Terra, and Final Fantasy X's Lulu.
