Unfortunately, The Sixth Sense released around the same time with a similar premise. Since the twist felt way too familiar in Final Fantasy 10, the role of the Unsent was given to Auron instead.

Funnily enough, most people still find Auron to be way older than his official age of 35 years. This is mainly due to his look, which is way too mature even for a person in his mid-thirties.

This is because Nomura didn't decide on Auron's age until the very last moment after his character design was already finalized. Kazushige Nojima himself stated that they were so reliant on Nomura for the character ages that they didn't even bother to check up with him for the same.

There were several early concepts of Auron that were toyed around with by developers. Perhaps the most interesting of the lot is the fact that Auron was supposed to be a disguised Jecht who looked over his son and the journey he was going to undertake.

However, this never came to pass, since the developers decided to keep Jecht away from Tidus and the main party. Auron ended up being his own character instead and was beloved by many - although this idea is still a titillating one that some people wish would've seen the light of day.

The Crusaders are a group of volunteer warriors that end up suffering devastating losses in Operation Mi'ihen. This group's name initially used to be The Crimson Blades, before some less-than-flattering rumors forced Lord Mi'ihen to change the name and save their image.

What's interesting is that Auron was initially chosen to be the commander of The Crimson Blades before the destruction of Zanarkand destroyed their forces. However, this idea was ultimately discarded in favor of another origin story that most people consider to be better.

Final Fantasy 10 was the first voiced game in the series. As a result, Squaresoft wanted both the English and Japanese dubs of the game to feature excellent voice acting and lip-syncing.

This led to the painstaking work of changing the lip sync for every character with spoken dialogue... except for Auron, whose mouth was covered throughout the entire game. As a result, there was more freedom when writing and delivering his dialogue.

All the names in Final Fantasy 10 aren't chosen at random — there's a purpose behind them. In the case of Auron, his name is meant to depict the connection he shares with Tidus.

The manner in which Kingdom Hearts 2 plays around with the universe of Final Fantasy is quite entertaining. However, this particular change left a sour taste in the mouth of most fans.
