The director of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition has issued a public apology for the game's issues at launch, and has promised that fixes are in the works.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition launched with middling to negative reviews, with most focusing on the shoddy implementation of the multiplayer in this multiplayer-focused game. The lack of any kind of local co-op was considered the death knell for many players, but the difficulties in starting and maintaining an online game were also a major issue that made it hard to have fun with friends.
The issues with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition's online multiplayer have been addressed by director Araki Ryoma, in a public statement made on the official Square Enix website. He apologized for the glitches in the game at launch, as well as waiting so long to address the fans regarding the problems. According to Ryoma, the issues with the game at launch were caused by the servers overloading, which has now been addressed with various updates that have been released, with more on the way.
Ryoma has promised that more fixes are in the works. The upcoming changes include fixing elemental hotspot and item glitches, allowing players to skip the boss introductions and Myrrh claiming scenes, as well as general loading fixes for the smartphone versions of the game. These updates will be launched later in September.
The announcement of bug fixes for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition is a welcome one, but it's disappointing that none of them will address the core issues with the game, which involve the region-locked multiplayer, lack of co-op, and the problems with organizing online play with friends. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition had the potential to be an amazing multiplayer title, but the design issues with the multiplayer will keep holding it back until they are fixed, and no amount of stability updates will resolve that.
