The next Final Fantasy game to receive a remaster is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and it has now been revealed that the game has been delayed until January 2020.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004, which was seen as a landmark event, as it was the first Final Fantasy game to be released on a Nintendo system since Squaresoft jumped ship to Sony at the start of the 32-bit era. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles received positive reviews upon release, but it was criticized for the unwieldy nature of the multiplayer mode, which required each player to own a Game Boy Advance and a link cable.

The existence of a remaster of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was revealed early, as it was planned to be unveiled during the September 2018 Nintendo Direct, but that was delayed due to an earthquake in Japan. The initial trailer for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition claimed that the game was due to be released in 2019, but it has been revealed at the 2019 Tokyo Game Show that it has been delayed until January 23, 2020.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is removing some of the issues with the original game by allowing multiple people to play together online. The downside to this addition is that the official website for the game seems to be downplaying an inclusion of a local multiplayer mode.

Square Enix has been remastering many of the old Final Fantasy titles over the past few years and it was a surprise to see Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles being revamped, due to how obscure it is compared to other spin-offs in the series. It's possible that the Crystal Chronicle games that appeared on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii might also see remasters in the future, especially if Square Enix goes through with its plan to create an online distribution platform of its own in the future.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is due to be released for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 on January 23, 2020.
