Classic Final Fantasy Games Coming To Game Pass, More Kingdom Hearts Games Coming To Xbox One In 2020

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy will be joining Game Pass while Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD will hit Xbox One next year.

The Square Enix fans who feel left out on Xbox One won't have to fret for much longer. During the X019 event today, Square Enix announced that several classic Final Fantasy games are coming to Xbox Game Pass soon. Along with that, the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX collection will be available on Xbox One in 2020.

Square Enix has been making a push, recently, to release its older titles on modern systems. This has involved remastering old titles (like Final Fantasy VIII) and localizing others for the first time (such as Romancing Saga 3 and Trials of Mana). Xbox One has received some of the older Final Fantasy titles this year, but the support from Square Enix has been pretty spotty.

Now, Square Enix is really throwing all of its weight behind Xbox Game Pass. As the announcement noted, nine Final Fantasy titles will be heading to Game Pass soon. The list includes Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X/Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XV. All of these titles will be available on Xbox One and PC through the service.

As well as Square Enix's premiere franchise, Kingdom Hearts will see its older entries land on Microsoft's console next year. Both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are finally making the jump, allowing Xbox players to complete the story on a single device.

The Xbox One has performed terribly in Japan in comparison to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Microsoft has had a hard time winning over the Japanese audience with the Xbox One, but it seems that the company isn't giving up just yet. Bringing Square Enix further into the fold is a smart move and having access to so many Final Fantasy titles under one subscription cost is a bargain on its own.

The Xbox One is also the only modern console keeping the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy alive as Square Enix seems uninterested in bringing the games to PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch. The games are available on Steam, but users with an Xbox One will receive 4K upscaled ports if playing on a One X. It's quite the upgrade.
