One of my favorite parts about becoming a writer that covers games and other popular media is being able to put my nerdy conversations with my friends into words. Creating listicles like this one reminds me of the days of sitting around the lunchroom and having ridiculous conversations about video games. Since this was in high school, you know our conversations got a bit risqué. I mean, have you seen Tifa? She is ridiculous. Even at that age, I knew there was something wrong. Let's not forget about the final cutscene where her two ladies seem to have a mind of their own. "Oh Japan," is all I have to say.

Anyway, my point is I could talk about any Final Fantasy for hours. I could also look at fanart from the series for hours. There's not enough time in a week, a whole week, to see everything online! There's a lot out there and some of it is bound to be funny. So for the purpose of this article, I'm bringing back the humor to the days where we posted about comics. Fan panels are great and I had a lot of fun covering them, but sometimes you don't need words to convey comedy. Such is the case with these twenty-two entries. My favorite of which pokes fun at Final Fantasy VIII via a recent news story. I'll get into it more later, but let me address this stress now. It'll come someday. Just be patient for Squall. Okay? Now let's get to the goofs!

22 Hair Like A Chocobo

DeviantArt

Meru-chan made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

Here is another funny revelation that I didn't see until now. Cloud's hair really does look like a tuft of feathers from a Chocobo. Bartz loves the birds, so of course, he'd naturally be in love with Cloud. This is more adorable than it is funny, which I appreciate all the same. Now if only we could see Bartz ride Cloud. Uh oh...don't Google that.

21 A Selfie For Selphie

DeviantArt

Alprz made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

I didn't think about this revelation until now, but did the term selfie come from someone making fun of Final Fantasy VIII's Selphie? What a surprising discovery. Square Enix should sue, uh, someone.

Smile and say Malboro!

While they try and do that I will say this is a funny goof on the whole selfie phenomenon. It would make more sense for Noctis to be in here since you can literally do that in Final Fantasy XV, but this is good too.

20 Fattyroth Switch

DeviantArt

NJoo made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

Can't you hear that jingle now? Replace all mentions of Sephiroth with Fattyroth in One-Winged Angel and you'll have yourself a great time. That sword has to be good for something, right?

Hey hey hey, it's me, Fattyroth.

It can get food to his mouth fast. He did have to wait in a crater for days while I looked after Chocobos. I mean, what else was he going to do? Not eat donuts?

19 Embarrassing Truths

DeviantArt

Meru-chan made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

Every character in Final Fantasy's rich history has some secrets they don't want getting out. Tidus is a crybaby, Zidane has a tail, and oh yeah, Cloud dressed up like a girl once. That has to single him out in a big way. There's absolutely nothing wrong with cross-dressing, but in this scenario, it's a bit surprising to sa the least. I still can't wait to experience that ritual in the remake.

18 Please God, No

DeviantArt

Orangedk made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

I tolerate Minions for my obsessed niece. I even have some art hanging in my office that she colored for me. Beyond that I wish they'd go away. This is funny, sure, but collaborations happen all the time. It's feasible this could someday happen to Final Fantasy VII. It depends on if humanity achieves Idiocracy. Maybe we'll see a Minion as president someday at this rate. You never really know, nowadays.

17 Oh, That’s Why It’s So Long

DeviantArt

SirNightfall made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

The point has already been made with Fattyroth, but this fanart further illustrates my point. Sephiroth's sword is perfect for getting food. He's a madman, sure, but I'd like to imagine he did this for Cloud and the other soldiers while exploring the world. He used to be a decent guy at least. Cloud's sword is also a great substitute for a frying pan. Not sure if it's good for their blades though.

16 Not Much Different

DeviantArt

Meru-chan made this design and put it on DeviantArt.

Anime has a very distinct art style to it. Final Fantasy does as well. You could almost switch around a few key features and come up with the same character from another game. I never really saw Squall in Bartz, or vice versa but this is funny all the same.

The fantasy triplets.

The biggest character that sticks out to me is Noctis. He looks like an older Sora from Kingdom Hearts. On that note, Neku from The World Ends With You is also shockingly similar.

15 Sugar, Spice, And Everything Leather

Pinterest

I'm going to pat myself on the back for that title. If you somehow don't get the reference and are stumped by the art, let me explain.

More like the Powerbuff Bros.

It's a riff on the Powerpuff Girls' art style. The three girls have been replaced by Noctis, Gladiolus, and Prompto while the professor has been replaced by Ignis. He's not the leader, but he is the most mature. As for the leather joke, well, watch this intro and you'll figure it out.

14 Future Fantasy X

Pinterest

This is an awesome crossover! It's a little disheartening to find a piece of fan art like this without knowing where it originated. That's the Internet for you. Anyway, whoever made this, good job. Anyway, I don't quite agree with all of the replacements of the heroes from Final Fantasy X with Futurama's. For example, where is the professor? He could have made a lovely Lulu instead of whoever this is. It kind of looks like a young Mom.

13 Lego My Fantasy

RIPT Apparel

I used to love playing with LEGO. It was as close to my heart as gaming was. Here's something a little embarrassing. I used to make anime shows with LEGO characters. I even had an intro and everything. Plus I added in heroes from other things like Final Fantasy VII. See? I managed to tie everything together. Anyway, pretend time aside, I'm over buying LEGO kits. That is, unless this fan art becomes reality. I would destroy for LEGO Final Fantasy models!

12 The Buster Sword In The Stone

TeePublic

AlbertoArni made this design and put it on TeePublic.

Excalibur? King Arthur? Please. Anyone with enough soul could pull out the sword in the stone. It would take a real man to take out the Buster Sword from the stone though. That thing has width and girth.

Ye olde Buster Sword in the stone.

It kind of makes you wonder. Is Cloud trying to overcompensate for something? In actuality, I guess I should ask if Zack had a problem since it was his originally.

11 A Caged Squall

tumblr

Fronteira made this design and put it on Tumblr.

The votes are in, places by me, and this is the funniest fan art on this list. I actually saw it before I started creating this and just about perished laughing. For those who don't get the joke, it was somewhat recently announced that Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X-2, and XII were all heading to Switch and Xbox One for the first time. This prompted fans to ask, "What about Final Fantasy VIII?"

10 Eat Your Carrots!

Twitter

Ignis trying to force a carrot down Noctis' throat is just too precious for words. Hey, the man likes his meat and fish okay?

He is a Prince after all and the crew can only eat what they find.

Even though they go traipsing around the wilderness there's not much roughage to be found. So, of course, Noctis wouldn't want to eat a carrot. Although maybe if he did he could have avoided a million plot holes in Final Fantasy XV with improved vision.

9 Two Bros Against The Darkness

Pinterest

Kingdom Hearts III is almost here. Two months to be exact. Yet, Square Enix hasn't shown a single Final Fantasy character in any of its press materials, be it trailers or screenshots. Is it going to be a big surprise like a whole world dedicated to them, or have they finally decided to cut them out entirely? That would be devastating because who wouldn't want to team up and fight heartless with series newbies like Noctis? They look so happy together!

8 Fantasy Crossing

TeePublic

Andriu made this design and put it on TeePublic.

If you try and Google Beetles crossroads fan art I'm sure you could find this idea with any property. I've seen it for Game of Thrones, Marvel movies, and even multiple incarnations of Final Fantasy. I went with this one simply because Final Fantasy XV is the latest entry in the series. That and their four party works out best for this cover art. They are kind of like a boy band after all.

7 Pixar X Square Enix

REBRN

Alternativeart made this design and put it on REBRN.

Oh baby! If I was the head of Square Enix or Pixar I would green light this crossover film right away. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was some impressive CG for the time, but no one comes close to Pixar's magic. I love how genuine this fan art is to both Final Fantasy's style and Pixar's. I especially love how lanky Vincent looks. I only wish Alternativeart drew more characters like this.

6 What To Buy

Pixiv

Aki made this design and put it on PIXIV.

I'm not sure what this art is trying to convey. At first, I thought Lightning was looking at a discount bin of her game, Final Fantasy XIII. Did you know that game bombed so hard in Japan that it dropped in bargain bins within weeks?

Lightning in the clouds.

That's unheard for big games, especially Final Fantasy. So I thought that was the reference. In reality, it's probably a comment on Lightning's longing to be in Final Fantasy VII instead.

5 Put The Ruler Down

Zerochan

MissKainan made this design and put it on Zerochan.

What if Cloud and his friends somehow changed Sephiroth's mind instead of destroying him? What if he put down his ridiculously long blade and picked up a ridiculously long ruler instead? That way he could teach a younger generation about the planet's origins while still getting in that motivator — a quick tap from his ruler. I would definitely be interested in a Persona-style Final Fantasy game set in a school.

4 A Dangerous Way To Roast Marshmallows

Zerochan

Saramanda made this design and put it on Zerochan.

You know those YouTube videos where kids try to do stupid things in order to get Internet famous like blowing up a firecracker in your face? That's what this fan art feels reminiscent of.

Bartz is either really dumb by using an exploding Bomb monster to toast his marshmallow, or he's trying to become a YouTube sensation. Whatever the equivalent is in Final Fantasy V’s world, that is.

3 Puppy Power

Zerochan

Saramanda made this design and put it on Zerochan.

Angelo is one of the weirdest Limit Breaks in all of Final Fantasy. Why would Rinoa launch her dog, her exploding dog, at monsters? Someone better call PETA on that relationship. Cruelty aside, he is useful. I can relate to this fan art as Squall fainted many times in battle for me only for Rinoa to step in and save the day. I like the idea this art puts forth of her hoisting him over her shoulder. That's a nice touch.
