The story of Final Fantasy Tactics follows Ramza Beoulve as he uncovers many dark truths about the land of Ivalice, but Ramza wasn't always planned to be the only protagonist of the game, as Delita Heiral was also going to have a starring role at one point during development.

The creator of Final Fantasy Tactics is Yasumi Matsuno, who also worked on the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series in the past. Matsuno revealed on Twitter back in 2012, that the story of Final Fantasy Tactics was once going to branch off in different directions in a similar manner to the Ogre series, with the player taking control of both Ramza and Delita.

The tweets concerning the dual nature of Final Fantasy Tactics have recently been uncovered by users on the Resetera forums. Matsuno had previously stated that the intention was for the Delita storyline to be darker in tone than Ramza's, which was meant to be similar to the Ogre series. The intention was for the player to switch between both characters, but it was cut early in development due to time issues.

Matsuno also talked about how the title of Chapter 4 was related to the Delita content that didn't make it into the game. Chapter 4 of Final Fantasy Tactics was called "Somebody To Love," which is a reference to the song of the same name by the band Queen. This name was chosen because the lyrics of the song reflected Delita's own personal story, but Matsuno admits that this might be hard to understand due to Delita's limited role in the game, as so much of his content was cut.

Final Fantasy Tactics follows the story of Ramza Beoulve, but Delita's story of being born a commoner and rising to the status of a king is just as important to the overall themes of the game. The player is given glimpses into Delita's adventures and schemes, while Ramza's battle against the Lucavi and their servants takes center stage. It's a shame that Delita's journey was never fully fleshed out, but there is always hope that Matsuno will return to the series one day and continue the story of Final Fantasy Tactics.
