Final Fantasy VII Remake won't be released until early 2020, but the game is already winning awards, as the Game Critic Awards gave it the Best of Show prize for its appearance at E3 2019.

The Game Critics Awards is an annual award event that judges the games that appeared at E3 of that year and it has been running since 1998. The judges for the 2019 panel consisted of representatives from sixty-four different media outlets.

Final Fantasy VII Remake won the Best of Show award for E3 2019, as well as the Best Console Game and Best RPG awards. The game was not nominated for any other awards.

The Best Original game award was won by The Outer Worlds, the Best VR/AR Game award was won by Phantom: Covert Ops, the Best PC Game and Best Action Game awards were won by Doom Eternal, the Best Hardware/Peripheral award was won by the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the Best Action/Adventure award was won by Watch Dogs: Legion, the Best Racing Game award was won by Crash Team Racing, the Best Sports Game award was won by eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020, the Best Strategy Game award was won by John Wick Hex, the Best Family/Social Game award was won by Luigi's Mansion 3, the Best Online Multiplayer award was won by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the Best Independent Game award was won by 12 Minutes, and the Best Ongoing Game award was won by Destiny 2. Cyberpunk 2077 won the Special Commendation for Graphics award.

The announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3 2015 is considered to be one of the best moments in the history of the conference, but the game was notably absent for several years. The Square Enix event at the 2019 E3 conference finally revealed a lot of new information about the game, as well as giving a release date for the PlayStation 4 version of the game, so it makes sense that Final Fantasy VII Remake would be considered to be the highlight of the show. There are a lot of fans who have waited a long time for a remake of Final Fantasy VII and the fact that the first part of it is coming so soon is a big deal to many people.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020.
