The Parasite Eve series might be dormant, but there are people in Square Enix who would love to see the series return - most notably the producer of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The original Parasite Eve was a horror RPG for the PlayStation that was based on a book/movie of the same name. Unlike the fantasy/science fiction settings used by Squaresoft up to that point, Parasite Eve was set in contemporary New York. The main character was a cop named Aya Brea, who encounters a woman with the power to change people into monsters by influencing their DNA. Parasite Eve was like a mixture between Resident Evil and Vagrant Story, with the later entries in the series leaning closer into the survival horror genre.

The last Parasite Eve game was The 3rd Birthday from 2010 and there has been no word on a revival since, save for some trademark applications. AEW wrestler Kenny Omega recently asked Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase about the future of Parasite Eve in an interview on the Square Enix YouTube channel. Kitase said there are no plans right now, but it would be a waste to not use those characters.

It's clear that Omega is a huge fan of the franchise and he discussed how horror games are popular at the moment, and how there is isn't anything like Parasite Eve on the market. Kitase complimented him on his knowledge of the game.

Square Enix has been remaking a lot of games recently, including Romancing Saga 3, Trials of Mana, and most famously, Final Fantasy VII Remake. Omega was right when he described Parasite Eve as an original and unique experience, and it would be incredible to see it remade to the same standard as something like Resident Evil 2. The later Parasite Eve games abandoned what made the original so amazing and we hope that Square Enix has learned its lesson from the mistakes of The 3rd Birthday if a remake of Parasite Eve is on the cards.
