Square Enix is working to deliver Part 2 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake as soon as possible, but that might still be a while yet.

The game news cycle might have moved on to newer titles like Ghost of Tsushima and the latest Paper Mario, but Final Fantasy fans are still eager for even a hint of when we’ll get to see the second part of what is promised to become a multi-part saga of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

And that latest hint comes courtesy of Famitsu (via Kotaku, who also provided helpful translation). Final Fantasy VII Remake developers spoke to the Japanese publication to give us all an update on how things are going.

“We are very aware of the voices saying they want to continue asap,” said game director Tetsuya Nomura. “We would like to get it out asap, but we are also keeping an eye on quality. For the next one, because we want players to enjoy something that’s even higher quality than the current one, we ask that you wait a little longer, even though we are trying to release the game as quickly as we can.”

Nomura concluded by saying that the next major announcement will likely come directly from Square Enix, although no timeframe for that announcement was given.

“While we are earnestly working on [Part 2],” added co-director Naoki Hamaguchi, “we may make you wait, but please look forward to it.”

It’s good to hear that the next installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be of even higher quality than the last one, which everyone agrees was a surprisingly fresh take on a classic journey. We do know that Part 2 will share much of the same assets as the original game, so development should be more efficient. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long for Part 2 to arrive so that journey can continue.
