Final Fantasy 14 offers many ways to personalize your character, from having great glamour options to spending real money to completely change your character's look. You can take advantage of many things that make your Warrior of Light feel unique to you, making each customization option special in its own way.

One of these ways is via the Aesthetician, which gives you access to a wide range of customization options, ranging from hair design and color to facial features such as lip color, eyebrows, tattoos, and much more. The Aesthetician is an excellent middle ground to Phial of Fantasia, as it allows you to change some aspects of your character with Gil, rather than having to spend real-world money to do so. While your options are limited, this does allow you to change the look of your Warrior of Light quite significantly and is worth obtaining!

Updated June 4, 2022, by Seth Parmer: Since the original posting of this guide, several hairstyles were added to Final Fantasy 14, so we updated this guide to include them. We also touched up the formatting to make things easier to reach and align with the other guides for the game. This includes coordinates, level requirements, and outlining any prerequisites needed to progress.

Overview

Location for Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep Quest Location to unlock the Aesthetician in Final Fantasy 14

You first need to meet a few prerequisites before changing your hairstyle via the Aesthetician. These requirements are easy to complete and can be taken up relatively early in your adventure.

Requirements

  • Complete MSQ "Call of the Sea"
    • MSQ begins in your respective starting city
  • Be Level 15 with at least one Disciple of War or Magic.

Unlocking The Aesthetician

If the above requirements are met, it's time to move on to the next step, unlocking the Aesthetician! To do this, simply head to Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks and speak with S'dhodjbi (X:11.1, Y:11.0) to begin the quest "Beauty is Only Scalp-Deep."

During the quest, you are told to assist Jandelaine, an extremely troubled beautician who has somehow lost the tools of his trade and dignity. You will eventually be made to run around and visit various Disciple of the Hand guilds, which are scattered throughout the different city-states. Completing this quest will unlock the Aesthetician and grant you one Jandelaine's Token, which you can get redeem for a free haircut.

Furthermore, you can get an additional Jandelaine's Token by completing the Level 50 quest "Of Siblings and Side-whiskers," which you can begin by speaking with Deputy Postmoogle in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:10.4, Y:11.3). You will need to complete "Beauty is Only Scalp-Deep" to access this quest.

Where To Use The Aesthetician's Services

The Aesthetician in Final Fantasy 14

With the Aesthetician's questline completed, you can now use their service as you see fit. But with a few caveats. First, you can only use the Aesthetician's services at inns, which are found in every major city throughout Eorzea. And you will also be expected to cough up 2,000 Gil each time you want to use their service. You can preview changes and hairstyles before spending the Gil to confirm them. Additionally, if you own a Jandelaine Token, you can spend it for a complimentary session, though there are only two available in the game.

In addition to changing your hairstyle and color, the Aesthetician service allows you to change your eyebrows, lip color, facial features (such as scars, bushy eyebrows, etc.), tattoos and their colors, and face paint. There are many options to choose from in each category, making it possible to drastically change the look of your character without having to spend real money on a Phial of Fantasia to overhaul your Warrior of Light.

Inn Locations

  • New Gridania: The Roost (X:12, Y:13)
  • Limsa Lominsa: Mizzenmast Inn (X:11, Y:11)
  • Ul'dah - Steps of Nald: The Hourglass (X:11.5, Y:9.0)
  • Ishgard: Cloud Nine (X:13, Y:12)
  • Kugane: Bokairo Inn (X:9.5, Y:7.0)
  • The Crystarium: The Pendants (X:12.5, Y:16.2)
  • Old Sharlayan: The Baldesion Annex (X:9.2, Y:11.2)

How To Get More Hairstyles

Aside from the default hairstyles found during the character creation process, you can earn many new hairstyles by participating in Raids and Deep Dungeons and purchasing them at the Gold Saucer with MGP. Furthermore, you can spend Gil and obtain hairstyles from the Marketboard, but these often cost a pretty penny.
