Square Enix officially revealed Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition today, and it is coming with far more new content than anyone expected.

Fans have been expecting a Game of the Year edition of Final Fantasy XV since the release of "Episode Ignis" in December 2017. A recent ESRB update revealed that a game called Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition has been rated for release.

Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition comes with all of the content from the numerous free updates that was periodically released for the game, as well as the three "Episode" DLC packs, and the multiplayer expansion. Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition is also receiving a lot of new updates, which seem to be focused on adding more content to the end of the game.

The new content in Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition includes some changes to the base game. Noctis' Armiger mode has been overhauled, so it now requires more input from the player, where you previously just had to hold down the button while Noctis wailed on the enemy. A new vehicle has been added to the game in the form of the Royal Vessel, which is a boat that allows Noctis and his friends to travel across the water in an open-world environment. A first-person mode has also been added for Noctis as well, though this might not be the best idea, considering how much he jumps around in combat.

A new dungeon has been added to Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition in the form of an expanded version of the city of Insomnia, which you briefly visit at the end of the game. This dungeon will add creatures from previous Final Fantasy games as new boss monsters, including Cerberus, Omega Weapon, and the Knights of Yore, who appear to be a similar take on the Knights of the Round. An older version of Cor will also appear in this dungeon, which may give us some insight into his final fate.

Square Enix also gave more information about the upcoming Windows port of Final Fantasy XV. The release date for Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition is the Mar. 6, 2018. This version of the game seems to contain all of the benefits of the Royal Edition, with an emphasis on being able to run the game on more powerful systems and having native 4k support.

Final Fantasy XV received numerous updates since its release, many of which have vastly improved the quality of the game. Square Enix suggested more Episode DLC packs are coming (with one possibly being about Ardyn,) so it remains to be seen if more enhanced editions of the game will come in the future. Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition will offer a definitive experience to those who are new to the game, though it remains to be seen if the update is worth money to those who have already left Noctis and his friends behind.
