With about a month left in season play, OWL has announced their shortlist of finalists for the prestigious 2019 Overwatch League MVP award and how the fans can play a part in deciding who the winner will be. Though there are five finalists, only three teams are represented with the San Francisco Shock and Vancouver Titans both securing two spots a piece. Below is a breakdown of each finalist and how you can have a say in who will win.
Sinaatra - San Francisco Shock
Sinaatra is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the Overwatch League. He secures a finalist spot mainly because of his Zarya play from the 3-3 meta in the first 3 stages of the league. During that time, Sinaatra's Zarya ranked first in "damage/10 minutes" as well as "fewest deaths/10 minutes." In the 3-3 meta, Zarya is an important piece for pumping out damage and because of Sinaatra's aversion to dying in team fights, he was able to sustain high damage and put the Shock in prime position to win maps. Sinaatra helped lead the Shock to 3 stage finals appearances and win the stage 2 finals.
Twilight - Vancouver Titans
Twilight made a name for himself on Zenyatta for the majority of the 3-3 meta and, as the meta shifts, is starting to assert his dominance as one of the best Ana players in the league. As Zenyatta, Twilight ranked first in "lowest first death rate in team fights" and first in "team fight win rate." Because of his ability to stay alive during team fights, Twilight was able to continue pumping out damage, keeping his team healed up, and discording enemies properly to help the Titans to the best record in the league and stage one winners.
Guxue - Hangzhou Spark
Guxue is the Winston specialist of the MVP finalists. In a primarily Reinhardt focused league for the majority of the time, Guxue was able to set himself apart with stellar Winston play, adding a new wrinkle into the standard 3-3 meta throughout the season. Guxue was first in "fewest deaths/10 minutes" and second in "team fight win rate when using Primal Rage" when playing Winston. Guxue carried the majority of his team throughout the first three stages of the season, helping the Spark to the fourth best record in the league.
Jjanu - Vancouver Titans
Like Twilight, Jjanu was a big part of the Titans' success through the majority of this season. He became arguably the best D.Va in the league and helped keep both Twilight and main tank Bumper alive throughout team fights. As D.Va, Jjanu ranks first in "fewest deaths/10 minutes in team fights" and second in "team fight win rate." Because of his ability to stay alive during team fights, Jjanu was a big reason the Titans were able to continue their aggressive play style.
Super - San Francisco Shock
Super was the main tank and Reinhardt specialist for the Shock throughout the dominant 3-3 meta. While his tank play was boosted by Sinnatra and Choihyobin, he was a consistent main tank. Super ranked first in "fewest deaths/10 minutes in team fights" as Reinhardt - and when the opposing Reinhardt is dying before you are, you have a great chance of dominating the rest of the team fight.
The finalists for MVP were decided by the league's general managers as they gave a list of the top players not associated with their team.
