Fire Emblem: Engage can be a tiring ordeal between countless hours of battles and exploration. After all that exertion, what better way to relax while also benefiting your army than to stop for a meal? Within the Somniel, the Cafe Terrace offers the chance for you to order a meal and share it with allies to increase your stats and bonds.

But ordering a meal is not quite as simple as your standard restaurant visit — after all, this is a Fire Emblem game. You'll need to collect ingredients, be mindful of your chef's talents, and choose units that both enjoy the dish you want to create and the company you pair with them. However, despite the hassle, the rewards can certainly be worth it.

Basics To Dining

The option to Order a Meal is available to you after finishing Chapter Six. You'll spy an allied unit standing behind the counter in the Cafe Terrace, and talking to them will allow you to use this function. The process of ordering a meal can be broken down into three parts:

  1. Selecting the units you wish to dine with
  2. Picking your preferred dish
  3. Adding ingredients

Once ordered, you'll deepen the bonds with the units you dined with (and potentially the bonds between them as well) and gain a number of stat bonuses to your entire army for the length of the next battle.

Each dish has the ability to be any tier from F to A, and higher tiers provide additional bonuses. Any dish C-tier and above will additionally give leftovers — a consumable item that restores health and is slightly better than a vulnerary (must be added from your convoy) — and conditional stat bonuses (i.e., Vander giving stat bonuses to Lythians).

However, be warned that F-tier meals will cause your army to suffer from debuffs instead, so be careful when choosing the meals you wish to order and with whom.

Each order of Leftovers will be replaced when you select Order a Meal regardless of whether or not you actually go through the process.

If you do not wish to lose any Leftovers you have quite yet, it is recommended to avoid this area of the Cafe Terrace until you are ready. However, keep in mind that stat bonuses only last for one battle, regardless of whether or not you select Order a Meal.

Unit Pairing

When choosing the units you wish to pair, you can spy their Support level to the left of your cast list. Those with the options of C, B, and A are capable of having their bonds deepened when dining together. If you wish to dine with units that don't have C, B, and A for all three of the units to the left, then the only benefit they'll receive when dining is increasing their bond with Alear.

Likewise, if you choose units that have already reached A-level support with one another, there is no added benefit to dining with them. Therefore, it is typically recommended to dine with units that:

  1. Have support conversations
  2. Have yet to reach A level

Picking A Dish

Picking a dish is the first step in determining the quality of meal you will receive in the end. There are three things to keep in mind when selecting:

  1. Region of the Dish
  2. Chef's Capability and Comfortability
  3. Allies' Likes and Dislikes

The region of a dish should always match the region of the chef for the best potential dish.

If you're unsure of a unit's home region, you can always check in your Ally Notebook (accessible through Reference in your menu).

Under the correct region, you'll see dishes with sparkling motifs on the far right of the screen. Scrolling through these and checking the top right corner of the item description will reveal your chef's capability which will be one of the following (from most likely to succeed to least likely):

  • Expert
  • Skilled
  • Capable
  • Eager

Make certain you have all the of the required ingredients in the recipe list, and then check at the bottom of the recipe description to ensure that both of the units you are dining with Like the dish.

Of course, it is not a requirement to choose a dish that fulfills the criteria of a chef's skills, having all the ingredients, and both dining units liking it, but the highest tier dishes will only be possible with these combinations.

Chefs do not receive a Bond bonus with any of the units dining, including the protagonist. However, if you wish to switch chefs to change the available dishes or potential quality of dishes, you can do so by Resting in the protagonist's rooms. This may be repeated as many times until you receive the chef you want.

Adding Ingredients

Each recipe will have a list of ingredients you may add to a dish. You can check whether you have all the necessary ingredients both before and after you choose a dish, and after choosing, you can add in one of each kind of ingredient that you have.

If you do not have all the necessary ingredients, you can still make the dish but will suffer a penalty to the possibility of receiving a high-tier dish. You will also have the option of adding a Special Ingredient.

Special Ingredients can be given to Sommie. It is heavily advised not to do this, as they give little-to-no bonuses to your affection or the boons Sommie may give when assisting you in mini-games.

These Special Ingredients come in the form of a Rare Vegetable, Rare Fruit, or Rare Fish. What you pick for a dish does not appear to matter, but they do add a small bonus to each meal and can also come in handy as a substitute for making meals that you may miss one ingredient for.
