The Fire Emblem series is a great collection of tactical and strategic games that challenge players to resolve conflicts through military might. The games explore a variety of themes, gameplay changes, and interesting mechanics as the developers tried to make the gameplay more enjoyable and difficult.

Yet throughout the series there are a number of game logic fails that the player is presented with. Some are common quirks found in any video game and some are unique to Fire Emblem. The only commonality is that they are all funny!

10 Training At Any Cost

Many games employ a training mechanic where mastery is obtained by repeatedly performing the action you wish to master. Players in Fire Emblem discovered that by healing a poisoned individual at the rate they’re dying, they could prevent that person from dying while practicing their healing spells.

This meme points out how callous such an action would be as the person is suffering from debilitating poison yet their health remains in a purgatorial state as they never fully die. Yet, they never fully recover as the healer is utilizing them to train their skills. So much for the Hippocratic Oath.

9 Boss Escalation

Maintaining tension in a series of video games is tough. On the one hand, you want the player to feel like they’re stronger and more accomplished from the first game, yet there’s only so much power you can give the boss without it becoming absurd.

Fire Emblem made the mistake of escalating the tension by having each game introduce a bigger and bigger dragon for the player to face. Yet it feels like such an abrupt transition to go from five ever-growing dragon bosses, then suddenly fighting a human-sized archer in Conquest. I guess you could say that deescalated fast.

8 Mysterious Artifact

Game developers often include small dialogue entries to give more interactivity and life to the world. A common one is character reactions when they discover a particular item. But instead of doing something safe like Link pulling an item out of a chest and holding it aloft a la the Legend Of Zelda games, Fire Emblem went one step further.

Here we see Donnel discovering an item and claiming it’s something he’s never seen before. Yet the player’s hopes of an interesting or powerful item is quickly dashed when it’s revealed to be a Tree Branch. Makes you wonder what kind of farm he has and how much he pays attention.

7 Critical Hits

Critical hits are a key component to games like Fire Emblem and introduce an exciting element of RNG as the player can either dish out dramatically increased damage every so often, or be subjected to the random devastating blows from the enemy.

Yet as the meme points out, from a real-life perspective this doesn’t make sense with how Fire Emblem displays a critical hit. In the game the character will wind up their sword, spinning it in the air before dishing out twice the damage in one blow. It’d be like a baseball player swinging twice in rapid succession order to get a home run.

6 Masters Of Disguise

This meme makes fun of an awkward moment in Fire Emblem when the heroes of the story avoid detection simply by wearing brown colored cloaks over their fancy royal clothing. They don’t change their hair or hide the fact that their royal armor is still showing.

The meme also pokes fun at the Pokémon anime series. Unlike the highly efficient and organized criminal masterminds in the original games, the tv show villains are bumbling fools who are as skilled at disguising themselves as the heroes of Fire Emblem.

5 Enemy Colors

Continuing the joke that the developers didn't take logic into account with the heroes' appearances, this meme points out the ridiculousness of the original outfits in the first place. Uniforms serve the practical purpose of helping soldiers distinguish who’s who on the battlefield so they don’t stab their allies on accident. If anyone needed to adhere to wearing uniforms it’s the Queen’s personal guard.

This meme points out that not only is this not the case, but some of the heroes in Fire Emblem will wear the enemy’s colors. Best case scenario, this just sends some mixed messages to her majesty's subjects. Worst case scenario, her guard members will be mistakenly attacked every time they join a battle - which is all the time.

4 Marriage

Whether or not you think dating simulators are realistic, you have to admit that the concept of forming relationships and bonding in Fire Emblem is a little ridiculous. Can you imagine getting married after four conversations with another person?

Granted it’s a game of war and conflict that has romance thrown in, so it’s appreciated that the process of love doesn’t take a lot of time and detract from the fight, but you wonder just how substantive these relationships are.

3 Missed Attack

Accuracy has been an inside joke in the Fire Emblem series for a long time. There’s nothing more relieving than seeing a spear pierce your hero's body only to find out it was a miss. Of course, there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing an arrow pierce your adversaries face only to find out it also missed.

This meme pokes fun at this concept but demonstrates just how horrific such a situation would be if played out in real life. Either that horse has incredible self-control or the next panel is going to be incredibly graphic and heartbreaking.

2 Gift Horse

A popular unit in recent games is the Golden Knight. These powerful warriors have advanced through the ranks to their ultimate forms with golden armor, strong weapons, and beautiful horses in golden armor.

This meme pokes fun at the idea of the soldiers getting lavishly outfitted in all things gold to the point that everything they wear, carry, and even the horse itself is solid gold. Aside from how worthless those items would be in a battle against steel bearing foes it gives a funny portrayal of how someone might be a little overconfident when decked out in solid gold.

1 Young Adult Power

The idea that a small band of young adults being able to rise up and overthrow a powerful army is utterly absurd. Admittedly these heroes are often princes, princesses, and mercenaries which are all highly trained in the art of war and among the best fighters in the land.

But the idea that a dozen or so could overthrow armies that could number in the thousand or even tens of thousands is just ridiculous. Makes you wonder just how serious the military threats are in this world if you just need to amass an army of 14 or so to counter them.
