The first Fire Emblem launched as a Famicom exclusive in Japan in 1990. Since then, the series has become one of Nintendo's most beloved IPs. One of Fire Emblem's most compelling elements is the likable roster of characters in each iteration, including iconic protagonists that must fulfill their destinies by defeating evil wizards, dragons, and more.

Fire Emblem protagonists typically have an army of loyal companions to help them conquer tasks and missions, but what if they also had a Pokemon partner to help them? Each hero's personality and battle style could easily be paired with the right Pokemon to help them accomplish their goals and save the world from destruction.

10 Celica & Tranquill

Celica prays in a church and Tranquill soars through the sky

Celica is one of the protagonists in the Japan-exclusive Fire Emblem Gaiden, which would eventually receive a remake and international release for the 3DS in 2017 as Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia. While Celica isn't opposed to fighting on the battlefield alongside her friends, her ultimate goal is to bring peace to the land and stop the cycle of violence.

Few Pokemon represent peace nearly as well as Tranquill, the evolved form of Pidove. Introduced in Pokemon Black and White, Tranquill's Pokedex entries claim that it lives deep in forests where there is no war around them. If Celica and Tranquill worked together, they might be able to bring peace to both of their worlds.

9 Robin & Alakazam

Robin holds a tome and Alakazam holds two spoons

Robin is your avatar in Fire Emblem: Awakening and joins Chrom and his group - known as the Shepherds - after waking up in a field without any memories. Despite Robin's mysterious past, they are incredible tacticians and effectively use their strategic masterminds to annihilate anyone who crosses paths with Chrom and his army.

Robin's ability to plan ahead is one of their greatest assets, but having a Pokemon like Alakazam could make victory in any battle inevitable. Alakazam is the smartest Pokemon, with an IQ of over 5,000, and uses precognition to predict future events. Robin and Alakazam could predict their enemy's moves and effortlessly plan around them to ensure victory at the end of every encounter.

8 Byleth & Dondozo

Male and Female Byleth stand together and Dondozo floats in the ocean while it rains

Byleth is the main protagonist of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and finds themselves becoming a professor at Garreg Mach Monastery after saving a group of students from bandits. During this encounter, Byleth encounters a mysterious girl known as Sothis, who lives within their consciousness.

Dondozo is a Water-type Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and like Byleth, it has other Pokemon living inside of it most of the time. Tatsugiri resides inside Dondozo for protection, and the two work together to capture prey for them to eat. Without Byleth or Dondozo, Sothis and Tatsugiri would be left vulnerable on their own.

7 Micaiah & Skeledirge

Micaiah stands in the Somnium and Skeledirge stands on a mountain during a sunny day

Similar to Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii has multiple protagonists to play as. You begin the game as Micaiah, a compassionate and caring young woman who is also the leader of a group known as the Dawn Brigade. She is often seen with an orange bird everywhere she goes.

Skeledirge would be the perfect Pokemon partner for Micaiah for a few reasons. First, they both have a lovely bird companion that stays by their side through thick and thin. But most importantly, Skeledirge and Micaiah also share a sense of empathy that they use to heal others. Micaiah's signature move is Sacrifice, which takes away some of her health to heal someone else, while Skeledirge's singing is known to soothe the hearts of anyone who hears it.

6 Corrin & Hydreigon

Emblem Corrin stands in front of a blue background and Hydreigon battles in a stadium full of people

Fire Emblem Fates is one of the strangest releases in the series and stars Corrin as the main character. There are three different Fire Emblem Fates titles - Conquest, Birthright, and Revelation - and each one revolves around a pivotal decision Corrin must make early on. One of Corrin's most distinguishable features is their ability to turn parts of their body into a dragon to unleash devastating attacks.

In Super Smash Bros and other titles, Corrin is often seen turning their arm into a dragon to damage foes. Hydreigon would be a great match for Corrin because it also knows what it's like to have dragon heads for arms. While Hydreigon tends to use its heads to destroy anything it can, Corrin might be able to tame it to help them unite a war-torn nation.

5 Marth & Pikachu

Marth prepares to attack and Pikachu stands on it's trainers arm

While Fire Emblem first launched in the 1990s, it wouldn't receive attention in North America until the early 2000s when the series began releasing titles internationally. A couple of years before the first Fire Emblem came out around the world, two iconic warriors appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee and helped usher them onto people's radars as important Nintendo characters.

Between Marth and Roy, the blue-haired Prince of Altea has become one of the most recognizable characters from the entire series. Being the mascot for a series sounds like a rough task, and few know that feeling more than Pikachu. By pairing up, Pikachu could teach Marth how to handle the pressure of being the face of a series while also shocking any opponents it faces on the battlefield.

4 Lyn & Decidueye

Emblem Lyn stands in front of a blue background and Decidueye stands in a wrestling ring

Lyn became one of the most popular Fire Emblem characters after appearing as one of the protagonists in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade - known simply as Fire Emblem in North America. After losing both her parents to a bandit attack, Lyn begins her quest to avenge her tribe and eventually discovers that she is the granddaughter of a royal family.

At the beginning of her journey, Lyn is a sword-wielder, but after promoting her class becomes an extremely powerful archer. Due to Lyn's versatility in combat, Decidueye would be a perfect Pokemon partner for her. Decidueye is incredibly agile and can accurately fire an arrow at a target over a hundred feet away. Both are calm, cool, and fierce when they need to be.

3 Ike & Honedge

Ike stands in the Somnium and Honedge prepares to battle

Ike first appeared in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the GameCube and then again in its sequel a couple of years later. Like most Fire Emblem protagonists, his story begins after the death of a parent sends him on a journey of self-discovery and revenge.

Whenever Ike shows up in titles like Super Smash Bros., he usually uses the Divine Blade Regnall as his main weapon. The massive sword can inflict massive damage on enemies, and the Pokemon Honedge is just as lethal in combat. It can drain the life of anyone who grabs its hilt, so as long as Ike doesn't touch it, they could be a deadly duo together on the battlefield.

2 Roy & Pyroar

Roy holds his sword and Pyroar smiles while looking down

Like Marth, Roy was included in the roster of Super Smash Bros. Melee and helped generate international interest in the series. Roy is commonly referred to as the "Young Lion" and uses the fire-infused Binding Blade as his weapon of choice. The courageous and eager hero is committed to bringing peace to his land, no matter what.

Pyroar was first introduced in Pokemon X and Y and would be Roy's best Pokemon Partner for many reasons. It's a Fire and Normal-type, which fits Roy perfectly, and it is willing to do whatever it takes to protect its family. Pyroar and Roy have so much in common that they would be unstoppable if they worked together.

1 Alear & Salamence

Alear looks at the ring on his finger and Salamence soars in the air during a battle

It's not unusual for a Fire Emblem protagonist to have the blood of a dragon flowing through them, and Fire Emblem: Engage's Alear is immediately introduced to you as the Divine Dragon of Elyos. Immediately thrown toward their destiny, it doesn't take long for Alear to naturally become a leader and recruit an army to defeat the Fell Dragon.

Alear's unique aesthetic blends blue and red colors to create a mysterious and intriguing character. Salamence is one of the strongest Dragon-type Pokemon and shares a similar color palette as the Divine Dragon. Alear and Salamence are both incredibly strong, and teaming up could create a ferocious duo that could eliminate anyone or anything in their path.
