In Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Switch, the player is tasked with choosing between the Black Eagles, Blue Lions, and Golden Deer houses before beginning their journey. While one might think that there is no wrong answer here and that every house has great qualities that make them a great pick… that’s false, Black Eagles is the only good house. The Edelgard led house is filled with great characters with varied personalities, and today we’ll be ranking all of these members. As a note, we won’t be discussing any of these characters post timeskip as to avoid spoilers.

8 Hubert

Hubert is… a real fun guy. As Lady Edelgard’s vassal, he is charged with keeping her safe and essentially doing all of her dirty work. To put it simply, he’ll do anything for Edelgard without question. This makes his own personality somewhat questionable. He exists merely for Edelgard and seems to have no real wants or goals of his own that don’t relate to her. Hubert is cold, and his support conversations reflect that. As such, he ends up on the bottom of this list. From here on, everyone is just a different degree of enjoyable, unlike Hubert here.

7 Ferdinand

Ferdinand is a lot. That’s basically his entire personality. Due to his class as a noble, he takes everything he does very seriously and prides himself on helping others be the best they can be. This leads him to clash with free-spirited individuals like Linhardt. His personality also leads him to believe that he would be better suited to the throne than Edelgard and is thus constantly challenging her in all aspects of their lives.

While his being better could theoretically be possible… he’s not at all useful on the battlefield compared to her, just throwing that out there. While Ferdinand is generally a nice person that wants to help others succeed, he will stop at nothing to prove that he is the best of the best, which can certainly be too much to handle at times.

6 Caspar

All in all, Caspar is a very nice student that truly wants to do good. While his family has done some questionable things in the past, he doesn’t want to be looked at based upon their actions, but rather his own. Due to not being high in any lines of succession, Caspar wants to prove himself in other ways. Thus, he takes his training very seriously. He can often be found on the training grounds working up a sweat… that sentence holds a lot more weight than it might appear, Dorothea can tell you that. Also, no major timeskip spoilers here but like… that hair. Now that’s what I call a glo-up.

5 Bernadetta

Most of Bernadetta’s personality consists of her passing out, screaming and running away. All admirable traits. Bernadetta is undoubtedly a social recluse, but as you get to know her the reasoning for this behavior become clear, and it is truly quite sad. Nonetheless, Bernadetta is consistently trying to get better about her reclusiveness, and works to trust her friends and come out of her room and enjoy outdoor activities more often. All in all, Bernadetta is sweet, even if she is a bit shy. Just don't chastise her for it, she's getting there. One slow step at a time.

4 Linhardt

Linhardt is an incredible genius that just wants to take a nap and that's incredibly relatable. Linhardt simply doesn't care to apply himself to things he isn't interested in, which even includes battling. Naturally, this aloof attitude leads him to arguments with some of his more motivated classmates.

He'd simply much rather spend his days researching crests and napping. He even dreams of a world where his only responsibility is researching what he wants and of course, napping. Just get him talking about any subject that he enjoys and his true talents really start to shine. All in all, while he might not be the loudest person in the room, he cares about his studies and his friends, and will help them in any way his research can benefit them.

3 Dorothea

An interesting beginning, Dorothea was once a huge hit on the opera. However, following in the footsteps of her idol Manuela, she wanted to prove that she could be known for more than just her looks and voice, which led her to enroll in the academy. Dorothea is everyone’s #1 supporter, and her friends know that they can come to her with anything. She’ll always try her best to help them. While she is an incredibly capable fighter, Dorothea is a bit of a flirt that would much rather find someone who will take care of her, something she is actively searching for during her time at school.

2 Edelgard

The Black Eagles house leader Edelgard is one student you don’t want to mess with. An incredibly skilled fighter, Edelgard has all of the talents it takes to run the Adrestian Empire, and as the heir to the throne, that’s exactly what she’s studying to do. While she does care about the people around her, she has an unwavering drive and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. Incredibly talented in basically everything that she takes on, Edelgard is one student that you don’t want on your bad side.

1 Petra

The Princess of Brigid, Petra, is absolutely the highlight of the Black Eagles class. Hailing from a vassal country of the empire, Petra struggles to speak the language fluently, which leads to much of her sayings to be a bit… off, which of course is both hilarious and endearing. Petra is no slouch and takes her training seriously. She also has deep bonds with her classmates, and wants nothing more than for them to succeed. She also misses her homeland greatly and wants Brigid to have all of the successes in the world. Kind and talented, Petra is the best that the Black Eagles has to offer.
