In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Blue Lions feel like a natural starting point when exploring the game's different routes. Dimitri seems a noble, upstanding sort and the rest of the house feels well-rounded, with a host of interesting characters to get to know.

This is largely the same in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Dimitri makes a strong first impression and the obvious tight-knittedness of the class only serves to make them a more attractive prospect. Shez is able to fit right in, with a little bit of effort, and they make for a fantastic band of companions.

The Blue Lions: An Overall Analysis

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes - Dedue, Dimitri and Sylvain

If you compare all three houses against one another, you'd notice that the Blue Lions roster feels the most classic, as it resembles the roster of an earlier Fire Emblem game, thanks to the balanced coverage of classes. You have a Lord, a Cavalier, a Myrmidon, a Mage, a Priest, an Archer, and a Pegasus Knight - it doesn't get more well-rounded than that. You have a unit for every occasion. Heck, Three Hopes even adds a new Cavalier to the bunch, which is even more traditional!

In terms of actual damage output, the class has quite the emphasis on Spears, with Dimitri, Sylvain, Ingrid, and newcomer Rodrigue all wielding pokey sticks. In comparison, you only have one Axe-wielder in Dedue and if you don't count Shez, Felix is your lone swordsman. What this means is that you're sorely lacking a fist-fighter, and they're very fun to use in this game. Of course, a bit of class-changing can solve many of these problems - if you do see it as a problem - and you'll get the chance to recruit plenty of other characters to bump up your diversity.

Magic-wise, you have two very strong spellcasters on your roster. Annette makes for a fantastic Mage who combos quite well with Ashe thanks to her wind magic, and Mercedes might be one of the best healers in the game. Notably, though, you're lacking in Dark Magic for much of the game unless you recruit Hapi early on in the game, who turns out to be quite the fragile liability.

Every Blue Lions Character

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Blue Lions Class

Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Dimitri

Descendent of Blaiddyd, one of the Ten Elites of history, Dimitri is the prince, and eventually king, of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. He has a tendency to get consumed by his responsibilities, but he remains an approachable and friendly companion nonetheless. He puts a tremendous amount of faith in the people around him, evidenced by how quickly he's willing to make Shez a captain, and then a general in his army.

Born with inhuman strength, Dimitri is quite prodigious when it comes to inflicting damage. This can be seen in his high strength growth and his dislike of fragile objects - so don't go gifting him anything he could crush in his hands, like a floral adornment. Dimitri also has a tendency to get lost in the fury of battle, which is also reflected well in-game - when ordered to take down a specific enemy unit, his bloodlust gives rise to a 30 percent boost in damage.

In combat, Dimitri is a keen user of the lightning element. His unique ability imbues all of his normal attacks with the element, giving them the chance to Shock enemies, making them discharge lightning when sent flying. For this reason, Dimitri is great at taking out crowds.

Dedue Molinaro

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Dedue

Vassal of Dimitri and survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, Dedue is the house's axe-wielder and bulkiest unit. In fact, Dedue might be the most defensively-oriented unit in the entire game - he gains bonuses when pursuing the Armor Knight class tree and even gets a bonus when ordered to defend a unit on the battlefield.

With high strength and an emphasis on strong attacks thanks to his Demolisher skill, Dedue is a fine candidate for class changing into the fisticuff-loving Brawler class line. He makes for a brilliant warrior, and Seteth comes along early enough to fill the axe-wielder role if required.

Despite his gruff exterior, there's a softness within Dedue - he'll appreciate any flowers you gift him and his support conversations reveal a love for gardening and cookery. He also has a great deal of respect for Dimitri, and eagerly serves as his attendant.

Felix Hugo Fraldarius

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Felix

Felix wins the prize for 'Moost Moody,' 'Most Cutting Remark,' and 'Most Obvious Caring Personality Hidden Beneath A Front.' He is a very serious person but to think of him as unapproachable would be a mistake - just view his support conversations with the people he lets get close to him (Dimitri, Annette, and Sylvain, for example) to see the real Felix at work.

As expected, Felix has some obvious likes and dislikes. Combat and hunting top the list when you're thinking about giving him gifts but avoid sweets at all costs. The greatest gift you could give Felix is a battlefield, and he's no slouch. He excels with a sword, making for a great Swordmaster - and his unique skill accentuates that. Intense Velocity increases his speed whenever he dodges during an attack, making him great at taking down enemy commanders and swathes of mooks alike without taking damage. Order him to seize an entire stronghold by himself and he won't let you down.

Ashe Ubert

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Ashe

The archer of the group is Ashe, who is also the house's resident thief. As in Three Houses, Ashe will come up against his adoptive father on the battlefield rather early on in the Azure Gleam storyline and it's a shame. Ashe is a very sweet-natured young man, with a sweet tooth and a love for tales of far-off lands and the heroes who adventure in them.

Wind is the element under Ashe's purview. With the Wind Stance unique ability, Ashe can create a pillar of wind that deals damage over time and can inflict the Windtorn status, indicated by swirls of green surrounding the afflicted. This ailment makes enemies take a ton more damage when thrown into the air, and in a Musou game, that's going to happen quite a lot, making Ashe quite the force to be reckoned with. Pair him with units who have reliable launch moves and you have a winning combination on your hands.

Ashe can be quite fragile, being an archer, but give him some HP and Defense-boosting items and you'll have a very useful character. His Locktouch ability makes him a must-have for any map with a chest, letting you bypass annoying thief-killing requirements entirely.

Sylvain Jose Gautier

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Sylvain

The first word that comes to mind when thinking of Sylvain is 'womanizer.' Sylvain's interest in the fairer sex goes beyond casual appreciation and delves into an obsession that threatens to override his entire character arc. Luckily, he shows some depth when his family is concerned, and he has some things to say regarding the Crest system.

In battle, Sylvain stands out thanks to his unique ability, which homes in on his penchant for flirting and gives him a bonus to his Awakening Gauge fill rate when fighting alongside a female ally. This is quite easy to set up - either give him a female adjutant or order a female unit to Guard him. His other unique ability, Gordian Stroke, gives him a damage boost whenever he surpasses a certain number of hits - keeping the chain going is key if you want to maximize Sylvain's usefulness on the battlefield, so it's a good idea to assume direct control of him as much as possible.

Mercedes Von Martritz

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Mercedes

Mercedes is a font of kindness, charity, and healing. She's the house's healer and can end up crucial when you find yourself out of healing items - especially on harder difficulties. If you're looking for gifts to give to Mercedes, you can't go wrong with the stereotypically 'girly' things, but ghost stories are a standout amongst her interests.

As the house's light magic expert, you'll become acutely aware of the element's ability to drain HP from enemies when used offensively. This is noticeable with Mercedes' unique ability, Radiant Love, which has a large area of effect and both damages enemies and heals allies. This ability alone makes Mercedes one of the most effective, powerful units in the entire game and she's a force to be reckoned with, both offensively and defensively. This ability charges with attacks, so it's a good idea to play Mercedes very offensively.

Annette Fantine Dominic

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Annette

Annette is the resident mage and has an amazing drive to be the best at what she does - she studies and trains hard, and it pays off. Her unique ability grants Annette and close allies a damage buff for a short time, something that will be appreciated greatly when you've gathered everyone together to take on a particularly frightening boss.

One of Annette's greatest joys is singing, and while she gets embarrassed about it, it's something the others love about her. If you want to get to know her more, know that her interests lie in studying, fancy clothes, and anything to do with cleanliness. Annette likes everything to be just 'so.' If you decide to take her on an expedition, try asking her about her past - she'll appreciate the opportunity to think about better, more peaceful times.

Ingrid Brandl Galatea

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Ingrid

Soaring through the skies on the back of a pegasus, Ingrid can be a fearsome combatant on the battlefield. You'll want to keep her away from any archers as a rule, though, as their arrows will eat through her health incredibly quickly.

If you want to get to know Ingrid well, cook her some meaty dishes and buy her the Legends of Chivalry book from the item shopkeeper - she loves a good legend to read through. As far as her dislikes go, Ingrid is well known for having some pretty questionable views towards the people of Duscur, thanks to some misconceptions around her fiancé's untimely death during the Tragedy of Duscur - it's even written on her character profile under her dislikes. Check it again after the timeskip, though - looks like she had some character growth.

Ingrid rounds out the house's mastery of elements with ice. Ice attacks can inflict the frozen status on enemies, which, as you may have guessed, roots them in place and prevents them from attacking. This is one of the most useful status effects in the game, as you may predict, as it boosts your survivability and makes it easier to drain an enemy's Stun Gauge. Button-mashing with Ingrid is a surprisingly viable tactic in a pinch as a result.

Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Rodrigue

Father of Felix and the scapegoat for the Tragedy of Duscur, Rodrigue is an honorary member of the Blue Lions in Three Hopes and becomes your second Cavalier, fulfilling the tradition of the Cavalier duo from games of Fire Emblem past. Here, he plays an advisory role after stepping down as Duke and only gets support conversations with Dimitri, Felix, Ingrid, and Shez.

That said, Rodrigue can be one of the better characters to take with you on the battlefield. Mounted units are pretty great thanks to their mobility (have you ever seen a horse do a backflip?) and Rodrigue's unique abilities make him a great unit for the more veteran players. Martial Prowess gives Rodrigue bonuses when you're able to time his attacks correctly, and Right-Hand Man gives him bonuses when he's at low health. The ideal way to play Rodrigue is close to death and with precise timing, so he's one for the pros.
