The advertising campaign for the highly anticipated action adventure game Spider-Man 2 has finally begun, getting started with a live-action spot on the channel ESPN. While the broadcast may have been missed by many, the advertisement was nonetheless noticed by fans of the franchise, potential players taking to social media with the news.“This is live from PS5,” a newscaster can be seen saying in the advertisement. “The good people of Manhattan woke up to a gift from their favorite hero as he delivered a gang of criminals on something of a webbed platter.”RELATED: Spider-Verse Helped Change The Landscape Of AnimationThe eponymous hero can be seen swinging through the streets along with another webslinger, presumably Miles Morales. “News just in,” the ticker tape at the bottom of the screen reads. “Criminals finally captured.”

According to the advertisement, Spider-Man 2 is going to be released in Spring, 2023. The broadcast was on the other hand made in Australia, meaning that potential players in Europe and America should expect the game to launch at some point this Autumn. These different parts of the world are of course in separate hemispheres.

Spider-Man by developer Insomniac met with a positive reception from both critics and fans upon its release in 2018. The game was praised for its engaging storyline, well written characters, and clever gameplay mechanics. The open world rendition of New York City was also highly praised for its level of detail and faithful representation of the comic book source material. The sequel from the same developer, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, came out back in 2020, receiving similar praise.

In addition to being critical successes, both Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales met with commercial success, the former selling 3.3 million copies in its first three days of release, making it the fastest selling first party game on PlayStation 4. This went on to sell 13.2 million copies as of September, 2020. The latter also sold well, moving more than 4 million copies as of December, 2020.
