Pokimane's Twitch channel will be the venue for the first community-organized tournament for Riot's recent Auto Battle release, Teamfight Tactics.

The tournament will take place on July 4th starting at 10:00 AM PST and will feature a lineup of 16 different streamers. The tournament will be commentated by League of Legends caster Riot Kobe and Team Liquid coach TheeMarkZ.

Since its debut last week, TFT has been a popular release on Twitch, drawing viewers and players from the League of Legends community and beyond. Upon the game's release on Riot's Public Beta Environment (PBE), demand to play was so high that some players reportedly encountered queue times of up to 20 hours.

Earlier this week, Riot announced that a Twitch Rivals tournament would take place on July 17 and 18 alongside the release of ranked play for the new game mode. The Rivals tournament will feature 64 streamers competing for a prize pool of $125,000. Still two full weeks out, the date seems to have been selected to give Riot time to smooth out a few bugs and balancing issues that TFT has encountered in its early stages. Once primed for competitive gameplay, a ranked system for players similar to League of Legends is expected for the game mode.

Despite any possible hiccups, the TFT Thursday event will feature some of the game's early competitive streamers, many of which will find themselves up against familiar opponents. In lieu of ranked matchmaking, streamers like Scarra, Reckful, Becca, and others have taken to playing in pre-made lobbies with other competitive streamers to create their own high-ELO environment.

Due to the game's infancy, a true competitive meta feels yet to be established. Though stronger champions like Pyke, Draven and Arelion Sol will likely be favored in players' rotations, viewers should have the opportunity to see experimentation in real time as the game's competitive scene finds its footing.

This will be the first competitive TFT tournament to be hosted on Twitch and the setup for the tournament is not quite clear. According to the breakdown for the $15,000 prize pool, it appears that after a preliminary round, the 16 competitors will be broken into two divisions, likely a "winners" and "losers" bracket where they will compete over the course of 3 more rounds for final placements.
